The dispute for the title of the Lord of the Tides and Driftmark’s next Lord took a bloody twist when Vaemond earned Daemon’s wrath after calling Rhaenyra a whore and her children bastards. Lord Vaemond’s death was not the only one in episode 8, which also said goodbye to King Viserys after all his years of misery.
The way things are unfolding, fans can assume that the Dance of the Dragons might begin soon. The Green Queen is setting up her move to crown Aegon, but does she truly want him on the throne given his many wrongdoings?
Will Rhaenyra miss her father’s death along with the beginning of the usurping of her throne? Does Rhaenys’ plan to support Rhaenyra have an ulterior motive? There’s much to be explored in the upcoming episode.
1. Episode 9 Synopsis/Speculation
Viserys’ words at the end of episode 8 will be Alicent’s decree in episode 9 as she will force Aegon up the Iron Throne in Rhaenyra’s absence. But Aegon’s mother seems unsure of Aegon being fit to be King – and Aemond shares his mother’s opinion.
Will Aemond devise his own scheme to overthrow his brother and take the Iron Throne for himself? The episode 9 preview seems to definitely insinuate that.
Viserys’ last words gave Alicent what she needed to hear, and even though Rhaenyra grows weary of the heir’s burden, she is not one to back from a fight. Episode 9 will focus on Alicent’s attempt to put Aegon in Rhaenyra’s place and viewers can expect a change in the Iron Throne’s ruler soon.
The title “The Green Council” suggests Alicent, and Otto Hightower’s scheme will be the focus of the upcoming episode.
Episode 9’s preview has also teased a secret that lands in the hands of Lord Strong-a mystery child sporting the tell-tale Targaryen white hair. Who can this child’s parents be? Or are we seeing the fall of Rhaenyra and her children with Daemon as the promo also focuses on an imprisoned Rhaenyra.
We can expect more from Mysaria and Lord Strong in the upcoming episode and the Black and Green faction’s informants and whisperers. Another safe assumption would be that the next episode will shine a light on the whole meaning of Helaena’s latest prophecy.
Episode 9 will also finalize which of the realm’s most prominent figures will side with the Blacks and those who’ll serve the Greens. Of course, save the last-minute betrayals and classic twists fans can expect in the GoT prequel.
Will Aegon sit on the throne? Who was Alicent asking what it felt like to wear the crown at the end of the episode 9 promo? Will Rhaenyra beat the Hand and Alicent and reclaim her throne after her father’s death?

5. Episode 8 Recap
Six years have passed since Laena and Laenor Velaryon’s death. Lord Corlys Velaryon falls sick, and his life hangs by a thread, which raises a dispute for the Lord of the Tides title, taking Targaryens and Velaryons to Red Keep.
Alicent and Otto Hightower have taken over the king’s duties after Viserys’ worsening condition. But to everyone’s shock, Viserys arrives and shows his support for his grandson, leading to Dameon beheading Lord Vaemond after he questions Lucerys’ claim and Rhaenyra’s modesty.
Viserys demands a supper with his entire family, kindling a modicum of peace between the Greens and Blacks momentarily. The supper is disrupted by Aemond goading the Velaryon brothers, and Alicent and Rhaenyra stop it. Rhaenyra departs for Dragonstone and promises to come back.
Viserys lies on his deathbed and unknowingly creates a misunderstanding in Alicent’s mind that he wants her to put Aegon on the Iron Throne. The last scene focuses on his last breaths and how he can’t wait to meet Aemma in the afterlife.
