When Horizon Forbidden West rolls out on February 18, it is going to demand a hefty 97GB from your console. Couple this requirement up with an internet connection that’s as slow as molasses, and you’ll be facing a dreadful launch day where a huge chunk of your time is spent on downloading the game instead of playing it.
Thankfully, there’s no room for this pessimistic scenario to set in now as the option of pre-loading the title is now available. Given that fans have had to wait for five years to see the world through Aloy’s eyes in Horizon Forbidden West, it’s natural to want to dive right into this action RPG the moment it goes live.
All those players who pre-ordered Horizon Forbidden West digitally via the PlayStation Store can now pre-load it. The game’s file size will vary by region as the Japanese version will occupy 84GB, the American one weighs in at 88GB, and the European edition sits at 97GB.
It must also be noted here that the game spares American gamers by a few gigabytes. This is because the US version of the upcoming action RPG does not house the language packs found in the EU build. In addition to this, the game will also be smaller on the PS4 in contrast to the PS5.
Now coming to the disappointing side of things, if you are an enthusiast who hasn’t ordered the game yet but plans on doing so, there’s a small caveat you should be aware of.
As it has been reported earlier, there’s a small trick that can help you purchase Horizon Forbidden West for $10 cheaper.
The game is releasing for both PS4 and PS5, but the latter will cost players an extra $10 for providing enhanced graphics and performance. Since Sony is offering a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade, players can avoid this price gap by buying the PS4 version of the game and getting it upgraded to the PS5.
Instead of buying Horizon Forbidden West for the PS5 right away, following the above-mentioned method can help you save money but not pre-load the game.
This is due to the fact that if you buy the PS4 version of the game, you will be able to pre-load that build only. That PS4 to PS5 upgrade we’re talking of here can only be done on the game’s launch day.
Confusing, right? Let us simplify it for you then.
What you need to know here is that if you want to save $10 by getting the PS4 build of Horizon Forbidden West upgraded to the PS5, then the option for pre-loading won’t be available to you. Consequently, you will have to wait until the release day, get the PS4 variant upgraded, and then start downloading the files.
But then again, if you are not on a budget, you can always ditch such small hacks of saving a few dollars and buy the $70 PS5 version right away.
