Thanks to Covid-19, game release delays have become the norm. However, news of new delays hurt just the same.
The latest game that has reportedly been postponed is Horizon Forbidden West, Sony’s highly-anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. According to a Bloomberg report, the game which was supposed to arrive this holiday season has been pushed to early 2022.
Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, previously said Horizon Forbidden West was “on track to release this holiday season” but neglected to mention a concrete release date.
He also added that the holiday season release was “not quite certain” and that PlayStation was working hard to announce a fixed date soon. So, we may get a confirmed date soon, but sadly, it will probably have 2022 at the end of it.
Horizon Forbidden West is not the only new Sony exclusive that has been pushed to 2022.
God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 were also supposed to arrive this year but were pushed to next year due to issues in the development process caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, Bethesda also recently delayed PS5’s horror action-adventure Ghostwire: Tokyo to next year.
It is slightly surprising that Forbidden West has been added to the long list of delayed games as developer Guerrilla Games has been working on it for a while now.
Additionally, the studio even put the brakes on the update process of Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC port to focus on the development of the new-gen title.
Sony is yet to confirm this delay. We may get an official announcement in September’s rumored State of Play event or even sooner than that, but it would be wise not to have any expectations.
