While there have been plenty of Harry Potter-adjacent games, none will give you as immersive an experience as Hogwarts Legacy! Playing as another rendition of the Chosen One in 1899, players will get to walk through all of Hogwarts’ iconic spots and create new stories within these spaces.
This has gotten fans super excited and one of the most anticipated locations that they want to visit in the game is the Chamber of Secrets — especially because Sebastian Sallows mentions a “secret Slytherin room” in his Feldcroft quest. However, we have some bad news.”
The Chamber of Secrets cannot be currently opened in Hogwarts Legacy. The secret Slytherin chamber that Sebastian Sallows refers to is the Slytherin Sanctum Door that can be opened by lighting all three braziers outside the room.
There’s a lot of information here, so let me clarify it for you: The secret room/Slytherin hide-out that Sebastian Sallows talks about is NOT the Chamber of Secrets, but a different room altogether. So, you don’t need to find the Chamber of Secrets or even unlock it to complete this quest.
On the flip side you may be disappointed that you cannot visit this iconic location. Just because the Chamber of Secrets itself isn’t there, doesn’t mean that the game didn’t include an Easter egg alluding to it — in fact, there’s a minor collectible you can acquire if you go to its location.

How to Visit the Chamber of Secrets Location in Hogwarts Legacy
From the Harry Potter book and movie, you’ll know the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is located in the Girls’ Bathroom, near the Slytherin Common Room.
Similarly, in the game, you’ll have to use the Grand Staircase (Lower Grand Staircase fast travel point), take a right from the blank wall (location of the Slytherin Common Room), and walk to the end of the corridor.

How to Open the Slytherin Sanctum Door (Feldcroft Quest)
As you play Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll find that Sebastian Sallows is adamant about learning as much as possible about Dark Magic and Salazar Slytherin’s findings in order to uncover what tragically happened to his sister.
While on the Sebastian Sallows quest, players will have to help him find Slytherin’s Spellbook by unlocking a “secret hideout/chamber.” As clarified above, this is not the Chamber of Secrets but rather the Slytherin Sanctum Door.
Once, you reach the Slytherin Door, what you need to do to unlock it is to light up all the braziers (torches) in the corridor. Now, the main problem is, you can’t light all three together and if you try to light them one by one, they go off pretty quicky. Here’s the solve:
- Light two of the braziers (which are on the same wall) by casting Incendio between them.
- Light up the third brazier immediately by casting Confringo.
- Once all three are lit up, the door should up!
Remember this is a time-sensitive puzzle, so you can only successfully open the door if you can cast both the spells quickly!
As you trudge along Sebastian’s arc, you’ll find one more reference to the Chamber of Secrets in one of Sytherin’s scriptorium. Here the House founder clearly talks about letting the Basilisk and Chamber remain hidden until a suitable heir can unleash it.
Besides this, there will be no more interactions with the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy.
Why can’t you open the Chamber of Secrets Location in Hogwarts Legacy?
If players were allowed to open the Chamber of Secrets, they would risk facing the basilisk which would ruin the Harry Potter canon. To avoid this confusion, the Chamber of Secrets has been omitted from the game.
I’m sure it’s a big disappointment not being able to see the Chamber of Secrets other than as a minor collectible, but logically it’s a good decision.
As players are “heroes” of the game themselves, it would be all too similar to Harry Potter if they had the same background and abilities as him, including being a true Slytherin heir.
Plus, if the game allowed players to enter the Chamber, there would be no viable reason to stop them from killing the basilisk or setting it free. Both of these narrative options would upturn the whole Harry Potter canon.
The Chamber of Secrets and the basilisk need to stay majorly undetected until Tom Riddle discovers it, about an odd 50 years later. Because of this, the Chamber of Secrets needs to remain absent from the game.
