An unofficial set video from Hocus Pocus 2 shows the Sanderson sisters as young witches. In addition, Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, Arrested Development’s Tony Hale, and more have been added to the cast.
Disney’s official synopsis for Hocus Pocus 2 kind of reiterates the first movie’s plot: It is set 29 years after the Sanderson sisters were first resurrected. Once again, they have found their way back into the world of the living. It is now up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the witches’ ravenous hunger for youth before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.
The set videos were posted by a TikTok user (who was probably visiting the set without official permission). The video depicts young actors in the Sanderson sisters’ get-up, teasing the fact that we may either see a flashback or backstory for the witches.
The first video has Winifred in the midst of an angry mob. When two men try to hold her down, she shouts out a spell that makes everyone disperse.
The second is a behind-the-scenes video, which shows all three young actors playing Winifred, Mary, and Sarah having fun with each other in between shooting.
The inclusion of young Sanderson sisters is in line with the earlier news of filming in Chase Farm, Lincoln, where the film crew was transforming it into 1670’s Salem, Massachusetts.
In the first movie, the adult witches’ capture and death was the exposition on how the Black Flame Candle can bring the Sanderson sisters back. Hocus Pocus 2 seems to dive deeper into their childhood, perhaps depicting how the sisters came to be witches in the first place.
Other than Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their original roles, Doug Jones will also be returning as the zombie Billy Butcherson. (After all, he simply went back into his grave in the previous movie, and wasn’t actually “killed” like the Sanderson sisters).
Fans will also be happy to know that Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, and Nina Kitchen have joined the cast too.
Leaving Waddingham and Hale, the remaining cast may be the high-school students who light the Black Flame Candle.
Hocus Pocus 2 is set to release for Halloween 2022.
