The Sanderson Sisters Will Return with Hocus Pocus 2 in September

Halloween 2022 just got better. Disney+ announced that the fantasy movie Hocus Pocus 2 is set for a September 30 release on the OTT platform.  

Disney also released rough footage of the sequel on May 17. In the scenes, the witches make a grand comeback as they yell,  

Lock up your children! Yes, Salem, we’re back!

The witches are summoned to modern-day Salem due to an error by two young girls who light up the infamous Black Flame Candle.  

There’s music (Elton John’s “The Bi**h is Back”), the nostalgia of seeing Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, in addition to new cast members. 

Audiences first met the children-hungry evil trio of sisters in the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus. Needless to say, the movie became a cult classic and a must-watch for Halloween celebrations.  

After nearly three decades, Disney brings nostalgia to our screens with a modern touch. However, ardent fans had to wait two long years for it to come to fruition.  

Disney first announced that the sequel was in the works in December 2020. A year later, a fan uploaded videos of the film’s set, which confirmed that the sequel was well in the making. 

Meanwhile, Ted Lasso’s Sam Richardson and Hannah Waddington have joined the cast in yet undisclosed roles for Hocus Pocus 2.  

In a March 2022 interview with ET, Richardson teased that the sequel was incredible and that “they truly haven’t missed a step.” 

The teenagers who will try to stop the witches’ revenge will be essayed by Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Lilia Buckingham (Dirt), and Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories). 

As the Sanderson sisters will return to the human world after 29 years, it’s natural to expect them to plot their revenge, but it is also bound to provide audiences the comic relief it is known for. 

Hocus Pocus 2 will make viewers travel back to nostalgic times when it hits Disney+ on September 30, 2022.
