4. Episode 7 Recap
The Clouded Mountain draws nearer as all hope hangs on Will and Lyra to thwart the Great War. Asriel keeps Metatron distracted with his camp of soldiers to give Lyra time to achieve the impossible. He and Coulter realize the only way to stop the angels is to drag Metatron to the Abyss and send him to where Oblivion awaits his kind.
Down in the world of the dead, Will cuts a portal to Lyra’s world, essentially kickstarting the battle between the two sides. Metatron’s Daemon-Eaters run over the duo, and their fatality looks inevitable. But Coulter and Pan save the day, and they all return to Asriel’s camp, where Metatron has snuck in through manipulation.
Coulter and Asriel face Metatron, unknowingly side by side, and for a moment, Metatron has them right where he wants – Coulter swaying to his temptation and Asriel at his mercy. But at that moment, Lyra uses the knife, distracting Metatron, and in a grand sacrifice, Lyra’s parents drag Metatron into the abyss themselves.
The war was thwarted, the world saved, and thus Will and Lyra head to reunite with their Daemons.
5. Episode 8 Recap
Stopping the war apparently didn’t save the world as the Dust leaked into another universe, threatening to take this magical world with it. Lyra feels the void with her parents gone but sets out to reunite with her Daemon while Gomez is on their track.
The Mulefa guides the duo to Mary, who explains the need for creativity, but Gomez has found the two and aims at Lyra, close to fulfilling his mission of killing “Eve.” But Balthamos interferes, the Magisterium is finally defeated, and Will and Lyra kiss in celebration.
But their newfound love is not to last since they discover the only way to revive the Dust is for them to go back to their separate worlds, along with Mary reinstated in hers. They promise to meet each other in the land of the dead once they’ve died and parted ways.
Will grows up to be a surgeon, and Lyra learns about the alethiometer, and the narrator suggests it may come in handy for her and Pan in some adventure in the future.
