Hijack, the thrilling Apple TV+ original, keeps us on the edge of our seats as we wonder if Sam Nelson and the British authorities can stop the terrorists from carrying out their deadly plan.
Sam Nelson is a master of deception, but he faces a tough challenge as he tries to outsmart the hijackers who have taken over a plane full of innocent passengers.
In episode 5, he devises another cunning scheme to save the day, but we’re yet to find out if it’ll work out. We are also going to find out what the British counterterrorism organization will reveal about the motives and identities of the hijackers.
In this article, I’ll explain everything that happens in the latest episode of Hijack, titled “Less Than an Hour.” Things are brewing up quickly, so don’t miss the next episode of Hijack, which will answer all our questions after episode 5.
1. The Demands of the Hijackers
The stakes are high in the latest episode of Hijack, as the Home Minister receives a mysterious folder with the word “demand” on it. He is clueless about the crisis unfolding on flight KA29, and he contacts the Foreign Secretary, Louise, for answers.
He joins her at the counterterrorism department, where she is meeting with Zahra and others. They reveal that the hijackers are working for a sinister group that wants to free two notorious criminals, Edgar Janssen and John Bailey-Brown, from British prisons.
The hijackers warn that they will kill all 216 passengers on board if their demands are not met. The Home Minister faces a tough decision: to negotiate with the terrorists or wait for proof of their deadly intentions.
The plot thickens in the latest episode of Hijack, as the police in Dubai discover a gruesome scene at Neela’s house. Neela was the woman who was forced by the hijackers to help them smuggle weapons onto the British flight.
She was later killed by two men posing as cleaners, along with her entire family. The police find their bodies and alert the media, who broadcast the news online. One of Zahra Gahfoor’s colleagues sees it and informs the rest of the counterterrorism department.
The Home Minister finally gets the proof he was looking for: the hijackers are ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
2. Elaine’s Reasons & Sam’s Plan
The tension rises in the latest episode of Hijack, as Daniel O’Farrell tracks down the mother of Lewis and Stuart, the brothers who are part of the hijacking team. He hopes to get some clues from her, but Elaine Atterton is too scared to talk.
She reveals that her husband, Peter, was killed by the same people who are behind the hijacking, because Lewis disobeyed them. She also says that she has no choice but to cooperate with them, or else they will harm her other son, Stuart.
Daniel realizes that the hijackers are under a lot of pressure from their bosses, who have given them strict instructions and dire consequences. He also notices that Sam is using this to his advantage and messing with their minds.
The drama escalates as Elaine Atterton makes a desperate move to escape from Daniel’s interrogation. She fears that the people behind the hijacking will come after her and him, and she seizes the chance to run away when she goes to get some tissues.
She dashes to the highway, but her attempt ends tragically when she is hit by a car, while Daniel and his colleague watch in horror. This scene shows how terrified Elaine is of the hijackers and their bosses, who have no mercy for anyone who crosses them. She would rather die than face their wrath.
Meanwhile, Sam Nelson comes up with another clever plan to land the plane in Hungary. Sam is a sharp-eyed and quick-witted negotiator, who knows how to use every detail to his advantage. He notices the flag of Hungary on Anna Kovacs’ badge, and he draws it on a paper and asks his fellow passengers which country it belongs to.
He learns that Anna is from Hungary, and that the plane is about to fly over its airspace. He then tells Stuart that they need to land the plane in Hungary as Lewis urgently needs medical attention. Sam has figured out that Lewis and Stuart are brothers, and he knows that Stuart cares about him.
Nelson then tries to trick Stuart into landing the plane in Hungary. He is a smart and cunning negotiator, who knows how to play with people’s emotions and fears. He tells Stuart that the doctor is lying about Lewis’ condition, and that he is dying.
Stuart is skeptical of Sam’s words, but he is also worried about his brother. He decides to ask the doctor himself, but Sam has already planned for that. He tells Deevia Khan, the air hostess, to call the doctor and tell him to say “less than one hour” to whatever Stuart asks him. But there is a catch: Deevia has no time to explain the plan to the doctor, and Sam has no guarantee that the doctor will play along.
He also has to deal with Anna Kovacs, who has to communicate with the Hungarian air traffic control in her native language, without alerting the hijacker. Moreover, he has to face the opposition of Teddy, Jamie, and Jaden, who are against landing the plane and who try to persuade Stuart otherwise. But Stuart is determined to save his brother, and he ignores everyone else.
3. Why Sam Changes His Mind
The plot twists in the latest episode of Hijack, as Sam Nelson changes his mind and tells Anna Kovacs not to land in Hungary. He learns a shocking truth from Terry, one of the hijackers, who pulls him aside and tells him that they are working for a ruthless group that will stop at nothing to get what they want.
Terry tells Sam that they have his passport details, and that they will harm his family if he tries to interfere with their plan. He also reveals that he was the one who killed Lewis’ father, because Lewis disobeyed their orders. He says that he knows what they are capable of, and that Sam should not mess with them.
Most importantly, Sam makes a tough decision and tells Anna Kovacs not to land in Hungary.
He faces a dilemma between saving the passengers and protecting his family, as he learns that the hijackers are working for a deadly group that will harm anyone who stands in their way. He hears from Lewis, who is dying, that they should not land, and he realizes that the hijackers are terrified of their bosses.
Lewis dies in the end, and Sam tells Stuart that he pulled out the pen himself, but we are not sure if he is telling the truth. He says that Lewis sacrificed his life so that Stuart would not land, but we suspect that Sam might have done it to persuade Stuart.
The danger is real in the latest episode, as two men with guns show up at Sam Nelson’s house. They are looking for Sam, but they don’t know that his son is home. He sees them and hides in the bedroom, hoping that they won’t find him.
We are left wondering whether he will be safe, and how the hijackers got his address. It seems that they have a lot of power and influence, and that they have planned this for a long time. We will have to wait for the next episode to find out what happens next, and if Sam Nelson can save the passengers and his family.
