In Episode 8, titled ‘Curse-Revealing Chapter, Part 2,’ Satoko tricked everyone at school into believing that she is being assaulted at home by her uncle Teppei.
On the other hand, she constantly lied to her uncle and made him think that she was being bullied at school and in the town by the people of Hinamizawa.
Earlier in the episode, Satoko told Rika that she would be at her house with her uncle Teppei. Rika tried to stop her, but Satoko insisted on going back as not obeying her uncle’s order would make him angry.
Everyone at school thought that Satoko is being abused and tried seeking help from child welfare. The child welfare called Satoko, but she said that everything is fine.
The following day at school, everything seemed to be fine until Satoko started to have a mental breakdown as she started screaming at the top of her lungs.

Episode 9 Preview & Speculation
It seems like the only motive Satoko has to lie to such an extent is to take revenge on her uncle. For this, she can use anyone, which explains why she has been dragging the people of Hinamizawa into all the mess.
Satoko has brainwashed her uncle so much that we might see him soon assaulting Keiichi in the upcoming episodes.
Satoko’s behavior in the recent episode pretty much confirmed that she has some kind of personality disorder. We saw her being torn between two sides, and unfortunately, even Satoko herself can’t tell the difference anymore.
It’s unclear whether the ending where Satoko broke down in the classroom was genuine or an inner conflict between her human and witch sides.

Episode 9 of the Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu anime, titled “Curse-Revealing Chapter, Part 3”, has been released on Thursday, Aug 19, 2021.
Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

Episode 8 Recap
Rika tries convincing Satoko to stay there and not go to her uncle’s house. But Satoko insists on going back because she doesn’t want to make Teppei angry. Satoko tells Rika to meet the following day at the staircase, from where they’ll head to school.
The same night, a council member comes to discuss the matter with Mion’s grandmother. Since the grandmother is asleep, Mion conveys the message and learns about Teppei Hojo’s arrival in Hinamizawa.
The following morning, Mion seems worried as she heads to school with Keiichi and Rena. On the other hand, Rika waits for Satoko at the staircase.
When Satoko finally arrives, she explains that she has been told to run some errands by her uncle and asks Rika to go ahead.
Rika tells Satoko to come to school with her and assures her that they all will do something about her uncle, but Satoko tells her that she will meet her at school.
At the school, Rena, Rika, Mion, and Keiichi discuss the situation.
Mion reveals that last time Teppei and his wife abused Satoko, she complained at the child welfare but to no considerable help arrived from their end. Then suddenly, Satoko comes.
After school, Satoko goes to a rice field and makes herself covered in dirt to make it look like she was bullied at school. On seeing his niece like this, Teppei turns furious and rushes out.
Satoko stops him and lies that if he does anything, she will end up losing the house. The next day, Satoko misses school, so the classroom teacher pays a visit to check on her.
But under the illusion that everyone in Hinamizawa is bullying Satoko, Teppei doesn’t let the teacher meet her. The teacher smells something fishy and informs the child welfare.
The child welfare then calls Satoko, but Satoko tells them that everything is fine.
The following day, Satoko meets everyone at school. Everything seems to be fine until Satoko starts vomiting. She screams and puts up an act like she is being abused at home. Meanwhile, Eua looks at her through the fragment and laughs at Satoko.
