In Episode 5, titled ‘Cotton-Revealing Chapter, Part 1,’ Mion killed her sister Shion after learning that she knowingly dragged Keiichi into the mess created by their uncle Tomitake.
Earlier in the episode, Mion took dinner for Keiichi at his house. She pretended to be Shion and returned home after giving him the bento boxes.
Shion made every effort to make her sister jealous. First, she tricked Keiichi into going to Mion’s workplace with her and later escaped from the Watanabashi festival with him.
Shion took Keiichi to his uncle’s cottage. Meanwhile, her uncle stole a truck with Takano and got under police suspicion.

Episode 6 Preview & Speculation
So it seems as the Hinamizawa curse Satoko injected into Mion in the previous episode has started to act. It’s evident that Mion killed her sister under that curse.
However, the way she gathered herself together after killing Shion proves that she is still in control.
Mion’s strong willpower to resist the virus only meant she gets that one moment of intense grief before being swallowed back up by it again. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mion kills Satoko under the curse in the next episode.
When Mion took bento boxes to Keiichi’s house, Satoko was watching her pretending to be Shion.
So this could mean that Mion pretending to be Shion in front of Keiichi was also under the effect of the curse, and Satoko was there to confirm if it’s working or not.
However, there is no proof to support this theory yet, and we hope to get our answers in the next episode.

Episode 6 of the Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu (2021) anime, titled “Cotton-Revealing Chapter, Part 2”, has been released on Thursday, Jul 29, 2021.
Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

Episode 5 Recap
On the night of June 14, 1983, Mion makes dinner for Keiichi to thank him for the doll he gave her earlier. She pretends to be Shion and takes the dinner to his house while Satoko watches her.
The next day after school, Mion heads to the convenience store where she works part-time. At the same time, Shion knowingly tricks Keiichi into going inside the store with her to make Mion jealous.
That same night, Satoko, Rena, and Mion head together to enjoy Rika’s dance at the yearly Watanabashi festival. Mion looks for Keiichi, but Satoko tells her that he must be having a good time with Shion, making her jealous.
On the other hand, Shion takes Keiichi to his uncle’s mansion. Later, it is revealed that her uncle Tomitake stole a truck from the city with Takano, and Oiishi has started to search for the duo as the investigating team leader.
Kasai drops by at Shion’s place to give her an electric buzzer and asks her to be safe. After Kasai leaves, Oiishi arrives to talk about Tomitake and Takano.
After Oiishi leaves, Shion calls Keiichi and tells him that Tomitake stole a truck under the Oyashiro-Sama curse. Keiichi starts yelling at her on realizing that he got dragged into the mess.
Meanwhile, Mion eavesdrops on the conversation and confronts her later for dragging Keiichi into it. Soon afterward, she kills her in a rage. Then, she returns to her usual self and turns pale on realizing that she killed her sister.
Mion then goes to her grandma’s room and asks the truth about the Hinamizawa curse.
