In the very first scene of Episode 4, Keiichi wakes up from a nightmare and fears Rena watching him all night sleeping. He wakes only to be informed by his mother that Rena had come to wake him up for school.
Later, Keiichi learns that Rena is going to bring him food while his parents are out, and Keiichi fights the urge of suspecting Rena to be a bad person.
He invites her inside him home but is soon surprised when Rena stabs him with a knife. Trying to defend his own self Keiichi hits Rena in the head and kills her.
Let us see what we can hope for the next episode of Higurashi.
1. Episode 5 Release Date
Episode 5 of the Higurashi anime, titled “Cotton-Deceiving Chapter, Part 1”, has been released on Thursday, Oct 29, 2020 at 11:30 pm PDT.
The anime series is confirmed to have two cours. The first cour will contain 14 episodes broadcasting from October of 2020 to January of 2021.
2. Episode 5 Speculations
Episode 4 ends with Keiichi waking up in the hospital and Mion informing him that Rena, Rika and Satoko had died the day before.
Mion is then interrupted by the nurse, and as she leaves the room the nurse asks Keiichi if his neck was feeling itchy. The scene ends with Keiichi shouting.
Episode 5 might reveal why Keiichi was shouting in the hospital when the nurse asked him about his condition and also why Rika and Satoko had died the same way Rena was trying to kill Keiichi.
We hope to find some answers to the Oyashiro-sama’s curse and murders that had been happening every year on the night of the Watanagashi festival.
3. Episode 4 Recap
Keiichi wakes up from a nightmare as he fears Rena spying on him sleeping form. He is not able to go to sleep and stays up all night. Keiichi’s mom informs him to go to school and tells him Rena had visited him to know about his health.
Back in school, Keiichi remains very wary of Rena and seeing this Rika has a talk with him. She asks if he is worried about anything to which Keiichi admits his fear of Rena. Rika tells him to fight on and conquer his fears instead of doubting his friends.
Later, Keiichi returns home to find himself all alone. His mother calls and informs him that they will be out of town for a day and she has asked Rena to bring him food.
Keiichi panics hearing his mother’s words as he does not want Rena inside his home.
I. Keiichi Fears Rena
Rena rings the doorbell and Keiichi cautiously walks towards it. He hallucinates that Rena is trying to barge inside and even recalls a memory of him murdering her with a knife in cold blood.
The memory can be regarded as one of the incidents from another alternate timeline.
He conquers his fear and opens the door to see Rena innocently standing with a giant bentou. He quickly lets her in and forgets all the doubts he had about her. Rena starts to set the table for the dinner while Keiichi watches television.
II. Rena Attacks Keiichi
The scene suddenly turns eerie as we find Rena opening her bentou which contains only tools for body dismemberment. Rena scratches her neck and confesses to Keiichi about being under Oyashiro-sama’s curse.
She says that her father will be able to live in peace in the village if she kills Keiichi and disappears. Rena then swings a knife at Keiichi stabbing him constantly.
Keiichi in order to defend himself smashes a metal clock on Rena’s head. The two attack each other constantly and fall unconscious.
III. Keiichi Learns the Truth
Keiichi wakes up several days later in the hospital. He is then visited by Ooishi-san, who asks about the whole incident. Keiichi cries and refuses to tell him about it.
Later Mion visits Keiichi and he learns about Rena’s death. He is also shocked to learn that Rika and Satoko are dead as well. Mion fears they might have killed each other. She leaves the room when Keiichi is asked by the nurse about his symptoms.
