In the very first scene of Episode 2, Rika finds herself stranded in the fragments linked to the myriad worlds. Rika talks to Hanyuu about the shards and about her past self.
She informs Hanyuu that she knows about the one who kills Rika Furude and promises to get back the future they deserve.

1. Episode 3 Release Date
Episode 3 of the Higurashi anime, titled “Demon-Deceiving Chapter, Part 3”, has been released on Thursday, Oct 15, 2020 at 11:30 pm PDT.
The anime series is confirmed to have two cours. The first cour will contain 14 episodes broadcasting from October of 2020 to January of 2021.
2. Episode 3 Speculations
Episode 2 ends with Rika performing the ceremonial dance in the festival, while Jirou-san is greeted by someone near the seashore.
Based on what we know of this franchise, Jirou-san’s death after the Watanagashi festival sets off the murder spree in the little village of Hinamizawa. So, this new series might also show his death in Episode 3.
After episode 1, the fans were convinced that the new remake of Higurashi was following the story line of Onikakushi-hen. But after episode 2, the fans felt the anime taking a completely different route.
The story arc of Ep. 2 is completely different from Onikakushi-hen and Ep. 3 might reveal some more interesting insight.
3. Episode 2 Recap
Keiichi and his friends all play tag throughout the school premises. Keiichi helps Rena with her quest of finding the Kenta-Kun statue from the waste pit.
Back in school the next day, Keiichi informs his friends about his and Rena’s struggles of finding and carrying Kenta-Kun back home.
On the way back home Keiichi and the gang bumps into Tomitake Jirou and ask him if he would be joining in the Watanagashi festival.
The festival begins in full bloom; people enjoy the food and atmosphere. The gang visits Rika before her ceremonial dance only to be interrupted by Jirou-san.
Rika whispers something into Jirou’s ears. He thanks her and leaves.
Later Rika begins her ceremonial dance and we find Jirou-san meeting up with someone by the sea shore.
