After years of waiting and being stuck in development hell, the Highlander reboot is finally moving forward with filming.
About five years ago, Chad Stahelski was announced as the director who’d revive the 1986 classic film. With not much progress after that news, just six months ago, it was revealed that Henry Cavill would be starring in the reboot.
Now, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it was mentioned that Cavill will begin filming on the’ immortal swordsman action-fantasy’ in 2022.
Cavill stated that Stahelski’s vision is ‘more grounded-in-reality take than the original movies and show, and will play a bit more like a modern tragedy.’
Stahelski was more than thrilled to have Cavill onboard and talked about how the actor was perfect for the role,
Henry obviously has the physicality, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot if you can’t also carry the empathy of a character that’s lived 500 years, and I needed somebody who could do both.
The character’s arc spans hundreds of years, and he becomes many different personalities, all of which extend the timeline of his emotional growth.
Then during our first meeting, my suspicions were confirmed: Henry was immediately riffing on the idea of the burden of immortality, and you could see in his eyes that he can transform himself from being a young, vibrant soul to an old, wise soul. He had this combination I was fascinated by.
The other thing you could see was his genuineness – he really loves the property and loves what he believes he can do with it, and when an actor has that level of passion, you’re going to get something unique.

Ever since the talks began in 2008, even Ryan Reynolds had been in talks to play Conor MacLeod.
Before the John Wick director took the reins, others including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan were involved at one point or another.
Neal H. Mortiz, Josh Davis, and David Leitch are producing, with Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger, and Gregory Widen serving as executive producers.
Not much is known about the film yet, but it seems like the project has finally found its perfect duo with Stahelski and Cavill.
About Highlander
Highlander is an American-British film and television franchise created by Gregory Widen. The series began with a 1986 fantasy film starring Christopher Lambert, who played Connor MacLeod, the titular Highlander.
There have been four theatrical Highlander films, one made-for-TV film, two live-action television series, an animated television series, an anime film, a flash animation series, original novels, comic books, and various licensed merchandise. Most stories feature Connor or Duncan MacLeod. Other protagonists include Quentin MacLeod and Colin MacLeod, each of whom exists in their own timelines.
Born in Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century, MacLeod is one of a number of immortals empowered by an energy called the Quickening and only able to die if beheaded.
