Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is the pillar behind the G I Joe and Transformers franchise. He confirms that a crossover between the two is not only possible but inevitable.
Bonaventura speaks with Uproxx on the occasion of Snake Eyes’ imminent US premiere on July 23. He answers several questions about both the franchises – his love for the characters, rights and wrongs of past movies, reboots — including, whether or not, Henry Golding would say mute and masked in the films to come! (The answer is yes, he will be).
One question that made waves with its response was when asked about the possibility of a G I Joe and Transformers crossover, Bonaventura was enthusiastic about its likelihood. After all, both franchises have their homes rooted in Hasbro and Paramount. He explained that so far the studio has been against it, but irrespective, we may a crossover.
You know, the truth of [the] matter is, the studio has always been against that. Every regime that’s been at Paramount is against it because it’s taking two franchises and making them one, but I think it’s inevitable.

While Paramount may not be yet inclined about merging two blockbusters for a crossover, Universal is toying with the idea of having Jurassic Park collide into Fast and Furious.
Bonaventura doesn’t know how exactly audiences will receive the concept, and especially if added onto the franchises he’s working on. Currently, both franchises seem to have enough source material to be independent until they finally dash into each other’s worlds.
Yeah, that’s true. That’s funny. I do think it’s inevitable. I just think that we haven’t run out of storytelling yet to require us to put them together in a sense.

Bonaventura is not the only one talking about a crossover. Steven Caple Jr who is directing the 2022’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has a deep fondness for both properties. He sees the decision for a crossover as a no-brainer, saying “Why aren’t you doing that?”
The answer was simple, the studio needs to crack Snake Eyes and Rise of the Beasts first. The “inevitable” crossover counts on both the upcoming movies being successful.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is an American film producer. He started off his career as an executive at Warner Bros Pictures in the 1990s and eventually rose to the position of president of worldwide production. His own production company Di Bonaventura is based at Paramount Pictures.
