Anime films can range from great epics to slice-of-life delights. ‘The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes,’ fits somewhere in the middle as a sci-fi-based coming-of-age story.
The movie follows Kaoru and Anzu, two lost teenagers in 2005, who come together to investigate a mysterious tunnel that is said to grant the wishes of whoever ventures through it—at a cost that challenges your desires and whether it’s worth the price.
On Thursday, HIDIVE announced that it will screen ‘The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes,’ the anime film of Mei Hachimoku and Kukka’s Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi young adult novel, in theaters this fall.
The highly anticipated film had its Japanese debut in September 2022, starring Ōji Suzuka as Kaoru Tōno and Marie Iitoyo as Anzu Hanaki. Excitingly, Otakon held a special screening of the English-subtitled version on July 29.

The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes is a Japanese light novel written by Mei Hachimoku and illustrated by Kukka.

Around the same time, a friendship sparks with the new girl at school, Anzu, who shares his fascination with the tunnel.
