After wreaking havoc in The Suicide Squad, DC’s Peacemaker is coming to HBO Max and the streaming service is promoting it with everything they’ve got.
Just a few days ago, an official teaser trailer for the series was released, followed by a bunch of first look images and now there’s another unique promotional strategy being used.
Fans of the superhero (also read as: supervillain) can now call a hotline that enables them to listen in on the conversation of Task Force X.
Peacemaker’s official Twitter account posted the number with a hashtag for New York Comic-Con. On dialling the number, you hear a voice saying Peacemaker is late for a meeting and it then plays the audio from the teaser.
As part of NYCC, an official poster as well as a featurette for the series was also released.
BTS Featurette:
As James Gunn was already working on a script for the Peacemaker series while filming The Suicide Squad, killing the character was pretty much out of the question.
Although while watching the film, one assumes that he dies in the rumbling of Jotunheim; the mid-credits scene proves otherwise as we see Peacemaker in a hospital recovering from his injuries.
Peacemaker takes place after the events of The Suicide Squad and follows Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, “an extremist murderer who believes he’s on a quest for peace, killing anyone and everyone to achieve his ultimate goal.”
Personally I will never forgive the man for killing Rick Flag but one can’t just ignore it when they see John Cena actually getting to flex his acting skills (along with his muscles).
Alongside Cena in the titular role, the series stars Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji.
Peacemaker is set for a January 2022, but it doesn’t have an exact date yet. Gunn wrote all of the eight episodes in the series and directed five of them.
The series will get its first trailer at DC FanDome and hopefully an official release date as well.
