Done binging Avatar The Last Airbender? Now watch what happens to its universe 70 years after Aang and his friends save the world by foiling Fire Nation’s plans to take over the world. Enter The Legend of Korra.
As Avatar The Last Airbender climbed to Netflix’s Top 10 in its first week of airing, fans want to know where and when they can watch its sequel, The Legend of Korra. Is it on Netflix or not? Is it available in the US, and where? Here are some answers.
How to Watch The Legend of Korra
Since there are no official announcements that The Legend of Korra is coming to Netflix anytime soon, here are some other options.
The Legend of Korra is available on at least two streaming platforms. Only the first two seasons are available on CBS All Access and the whole series is available through the Amazon Prime channel Nick Hits.
If you already have a subscription to CBS’ streaming service, you’re good to go. However, if that is not the case, it will cost you $5.99 a month for a plan with commercials and $9.99 for the commercial-free option.
That subscription will also give you access to most of CBS’ shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. You can get a lot of good stuff to binge on for less than $6.
On the other hand, Nick Hits may be a good option if you want to watch the whole series and that too under $10. The streaming channel is an extension of Amazon Prime Video that lets users watch their favorite Nickelodeon cartoons.
To subscribe, you need an Amazon Prime subscription, in addition to which the Nick Hits will cost you $7.99 a month. However, Nick Hits also offers a seven-day free trial. Need not say more now, do I.
A good plan can take you anywhere, even to all four adventures with The Legend of Korra for free! (You still need the Amazon subscription, though!)
You can also purchase The Legend of Korra on Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, and YouTube. The option is not at all cheap, costing typically around $26 per season.
What happens in Korra?
Those rewatching Avatar on Netflix are bound to be interested in what happens to Aang 70 years after defeating the Fire Nation, for which you need to dive into Korra.
This spinoff follows the impulsive Korra as the latest Avatar, set 70 years after the events of The Last Airbender as Korra struggles to master the four elements and her own emotions. There are bigger threats of government coups and dark spirits to face. Not unlike Aang, Korra will also need her friends to save the world.
Now, Aang doesn’t appear much in The Legend of Korra since he dies a few years before the beginning of this series. But his wife and three kids play a pretty important role in the followup.
Aang ultimately married Katara, his long time best friend, and partner in becoming Avatar and saving the world.
The sequel was also acclaimed for adding intersectional feminism, critiques of capitalism and structural privilege to its list of themes. It also hinted at a lesbian romance for its main character, keeping up the spirit of inclusivity in line with the times.
