Henry Cavill reportedly already shot a cameo as Superman for the upcoming DCU movie, The Flash. However, it may not be included in the final cut of the film. The Flash will hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
Henry Cavill played the role of the iconic DC hero, Superman, for the first time in the 2013 film, Man of Steel. He reprised his role in Batman VS. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).
Post-2017, it was unclear whether Cavill would return as Superman on the big screen. However, Cavill made an appearance as the DC superhero in the post-credit scene of the latest DCU movie, Black Adam.
But DC Studios has been taken over by new CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran this year, who have already announced their plans to bring some major changes to the DC Universe. This might also include some changes in the casting of new films. Thus, Cavill’s future as Superman is ambiguous as of now.
According to recent reports by THR, Henry Cavill has already shot a cameo as Superman for The Flash. He shot for the cameo back in September, and alongside him, Aquaman is also all set to make a cameo in The Flash. But in light of Gunn and Safran’s new intentions, there are ongoing debates within the studios about including Cavill’s cameo in the film.
If Gunn and Safran’s plan of re-shaping the DC Universe includes re-casting Superman by removing Cavill, then they might not include Cavill’s cameo in The Flash lest it gives rise to hopes that will not be fulfilled.
As of now, there is no confirmation about whether Cavill’s cameo will appear in The Flash or not. The future of the Justice League seems quite uncertain as of now, DC is fully committed to its plans for releasing The Flash, a project that has been on their mind since 2014.
Ezra Miller’s previous legal accusations questioned the fate of The Flash and the future of his character. DC changed the release date for the film several times, before finally roping in on June 16, 2023.
If Cavill and Momoa’s cameos as Superman and Aquaman are included in the film, it will firmly re-establish the current scenario of the Justice League characters in the DCU.
Cavill’s much-awaited cameo at the end of Black Adam was loved and celebrated by DC fans as they were delighted to see Cavill back in the role. The cameo in Black Adam hints at a Superman and Black Adam face-off in future DCU films, but the cameo in The Flash, if included, will most likely be a funny, light-hearted one.
The Flash and Superman had a similarly light-hearted, easy-going friendship in 2017’s Justice League. The film ended on a funny note with the two racing across the US. So, a Superman cameo in The Flash would not be such a bad idea after all.
But Superman’s cameo in Black Adam came before Safran and Gunn took over, so we cannot take that as an indication of Cavill’s future in the DCU.
Reports indicate that Gunn and Safran will be meeting the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav to discuss their new plans for bringing changes to the DCU. So, fans will soon have a better idea of how the future of the DCU is spanning after the meeting.
