Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Ep 2: Release Date, Speculations, Watch Online

The protagonists meet each other in episode 1 of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, titled “The Death Row Convict and the Executioner.”

The dark fantasy anime started with a bang, and I couldn’t hold my excitement. The animation looks really good, and Mappa has done a good job extending some scenes to add more emotions.

Gabimaru, a dangerous shinobi refused to die, and even he wondered why. Sagiri, an executioner from Edo, brings with her a second chance at life for Gabimaru and readily accepts her proposal.

1. Episode 2 Speculations

Sagiri and Gabimaru will go to Edo in episode 2 of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku.

Gabimaru will have to get soaked in blood again to fulfill his dream of reuniting with his wife. He will meet some new characters and lots of obstacles. The anime has just started, and I can’t hold my expectations.

The next episode will introduce us to his companions and rivals. They all are a bunch of interesting characters. I hope the anime will continue with this level of animation.   

2. Episode 2 Release Date

Episode 2 of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku will be released on Saturday, April 8, 2023. It is a weekly anime, and new episodes are released every Saturday.

3. Episode 1 Recap

The episode starts with Gabimaru’s execution. However, the executioner’s blade breaks while trying to cut his neck. Gabimaru wonders why he won’t die.

Sagiri, a female ninja, accounts for all the details of Gabimaru’s execution and interviews him. He tells her about his life as a shinobi from Iwagakure. He has not known a thing about love.

He was ordered to be executed because he was framed for a false accusation when he tried to leave the village. One by one, all the ways of execution failed. Neither did he burnt to death, nor could two bulls split him apart.

Sagiri asks him the reason for trying to leave the village. He tells her he was the best in Iwagakure and married the chief’s daughter. She was a girl completely different from their lives.

She turned his life upside down and made him behave more humanly. Fearing losing his edge, he asked the chief to let him leave the village, but he was framed instead and sent for execution.

One of the shogun’s men warns Sagiri about Gabimaru. He is titled Gabimmaru the Hollow, and the chief of his village is said to have consumed the Elixir of Life, making him immortal.

Gabimaru fails to die even after getting boiled in oil. He finds out that Sagiri is actually an executioner from Edo. Her name is Sagiri Yamada Asaemon. Yamada Asaemon is the trade name of the Yamada clan.

The clan has served as sword testers and executioners for generations. Suddenly, Gabimaru starts getting afraid for his life. He begins avoiding her blade and running away.

She tells him he wants to live because he loves his wife and wants to live with her. Hearing this, he gets infuriated and starts attacking her with a sword. We see some flashbacks of Gabimaru’s life with his wife and how she got a burnt face because of her father.

He decides to stop making a living out of killing people, but living a peaceful life is never an option. Sagri tells him that there is a way. She presents to him an official pardon from the shogun.

However, he will have to go to the underworld to attain it. There is a place named Shinsenkyo, a heavenly place where the Elixir of life is said to be found.

Some search parties were sent there but didn’t return or returned in horrific states. Thus the shogun ordered to gather all the criminals condemned to death and sent them to the island.

Sagri went there in search of such a candidate and came to know about him. She tells him this is the only way to reunite with his wife. He accepts her proposal and beats up all the men trying to stop them.

She tells him that they will have to go to Edo first.

4. About Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku is a manga series by Yuji Kaku that ran from January 2018 to January 2021. It was serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website and app and has been collected into 13 volumes.

Gabimaru: The Hollow is a ninja assassin who is on death row. He feels nothing and can’t be killed due to his training as a shinobi. Yet, when he faces Asaemon Sagiri, he realizes his will to live and return to his wife.

He is assigned the task to find the elixir of life on a legendary island. The island kills any person sent to it. Will Gabimaru find the elixir and escape alive?
