Summary
- After an outage on Steam, Helldivers 2’s Discord server was flooded with messages saying “F”.
- Community manager Spitz quickly shut down the server to allow the moderators to clean up the mess.
- Channels were eventually unlocked after moderators spent a good few hours getting rid of the spam.
Seriously plagued by bugs and technicalities, Helldivers 2 still managed to become a fan favorite immediately after launch. This was a huge win for the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios who have been consistently listening to player feedback. Helldivers 2 is a great example of what the studio eventually aims to achieve i.e. create PvE-style games with a loyal fanbase.
The Helldivers 2 Discord server was temporarily shut down after there was a surge of activity on February 14th. This occurred after an outage affected the game on Steam. Players suspect a server crash or a DDoS attack to be the reason behind the downtime for Helldivers 2 on PC.
After PC users were unable to play Helldivers 2, many rushed to the official Discord server to send messages saying “F”. Moderators tried to take control of the situation by threatening to put repeat offenders on timeouts or even permanent bans.
However, users ignored the warning and continued to spam “F” across the multiple channels available in the server. Eventually, community manager Spitz stepped in and temporarily shut down the server.
Anyone who’s not a mod was inhibited from posting messages on the Helldivers 2 Discord server. This allowed the moderators to clean up the server by deleting the spam messages. Channels were finally unlocked on Wednesday.
Since then, Helldivers 2 has not experienced any more outages on Steam. As Helldivers 2 approaches its second week, the community just seems to be growing. Both the players and developers hope to create a safe and inclusive community for everyone associated with the game. It seems very unlikely that such a ruckus will happen again in the near future.
