Helldivers 2 servers malfunction after players rush to try out new mechs

Helldivers 2 recently came out with a new patch update which introduced some new content, including weapons and mechs called Patriot Exosuits. However, it was welcomed with heavy backlash as gamers expressed their disappointment with the difficulty level.

Helldivers 2 just does not seem to steer clear of controversy as several players faced trouble logging on to the game, shortly after the whole fiasco with Patch 01.000.100. On March 8th, in a message posted on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, representatives confirmed that the team is working on the issue.

The server issues happened to coincide with the release of Patch 01.000.100. The latter is not to be blamed for it but a company official did state a surge in traffic as the root cause. It looks like players rushed to try out the new mechs which caused the backend to malfunction. Simply put, the Helldivers 2 team did not expect this kind of traffic.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has also personally assured fans that the team is working on resolving the issue to their best. He also confirmed that the traffic volume was solely responsible for the server issue. So, if you think the latest update had a game-breaking bug, you can rest easy.

To put it in numbers, Helldivers 2 had 363,000 concurrent PC players within the first 24 hours after the update was launched. One can only assume that the stats will go higher as another weekend is hanging over us.

Helldivers 2 has fared well in terms of post-launch support. The recent changes were mostly appreciated by fans but there were a few hiccups along the road. The developers also confirmed that they will make changes to the heavy enemy spawn rate and health in an upcoming update after the recent retaliation.
