Summary:
- Helldivers 2 fans complain of recurring encounters with cheaters ruining the gameplay experience.
- Cheaters are mining the sample rewards that are pretty rare in the game and are rewarded as spoils of war.
- Players feel that their grind is ruined by the excessive rewards they receive due to having cheaters on their team.
Swedish developers Arrowhead Inc. have done commendable work with their latest release of Helldivers 2, a co-op-focused third-person shooter released on February 8th, 2024.
Reddit user u/diceNslice has posted a screenshot on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, showing their payout screen after matching with what they suspect was a cheater. The Sample Cheat rewarded the user and their team with a mammoth quantity of 608 Common Samples, 644 Rare Samples, and 160 Super Samples.
OP requests developers to roll back their progress to before the match. They claim that the sample payout was maxed out, ruining the grind, progression, and the fruits of labor the players have toiled for.
This is not all. Some players have complained to the developers that they see spoils of war, as much as 15,000 total samples after matching with a cheater.
This is yet another issue on the horizon for Swedish developers, who currently have many topics on their hands. Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of Arrowhead, has been at the front of answering the questions the players have asked on Twitter.
He addressed the high matchmaking times due to server loads. On February 25th, he recently confirmed that the developers had fixed the server issue, as proven by the excellent performance over the weekend.
He claimed they can now move on to the proposed roadmap and work hard on that. Fixing the cheating issue should be one of their priorities.
Until a proper cheat engine can be put in place, the best the developers can do is roll back the changes when a player comes in contact with a cheater.
The CEO has also shut down the age-old notion that upscaling technologies like Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR are “cool but not necessary.”
The future seems bright for Arrowhead, who has made a significant mark in the present-day gaming market, which is very competitive. If they can resolve the recurrent issues and have a proper anti-cheat engine, this game promises to be the next big thing.
