Helen Mirren, who played the Queen on screen, paid a heartfelt tribute to the longest ruling English monarch, Queen Elizabeth II upon her passing on Thursday at the age of 96. People from all over the world have paid their respects to the deceased Queen on social media, with the entertainment industry leading the way.
One of the most loved tributes for the Queen came from a fictional character, the animated bear Paddington, who famously shared screen space with the monarch for a sketch aired during this year’s Platinum Jubilee.
Big names from the entertainment industry, including Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Elton John also paid their respects to the late monarch on social media. Another heartfelt tribute came from Helen Mirren, a film actor who has an intimate knowledge of Queen Elizabeth II and her life.
Mirren played the role of the monarch in the 2006 Stephen Frears film, The Queen, depicting the events following the death of Princess Diana. In an Instagram post, Mirren wrote, ‘’I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility.”

Apart from Mirren, actresses like Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, Imelda Staunton, and Verity Russell have all played the Queen on screen over the years, on the Netflix show, The Crown. Reports suggest that the show might abruptly shut down production on Season 6 to pay respect to the late monarch.
However, out of all these portrayals, Mirren’s Oscar-winning portrayal in The Queen remains the most memorable of all. Given her personal connection to the late monarch, it is not surprising that she was among the first few to pay her respects to the Queen.
