What if a human warrior turns against his species and fights to become the leader of the demons? In a world where demons have been defeated and humans live in peace, what could lead him to take such a stand?
That’s what Nanaki Nanao’s adventure fantasy manga Helck talks about, and it will soon debut on television as an anime series.
As announced on Friday by the official website, the anime will premiere in July. The staff has also revealed the full cast and team, along with a teaser video and key visuals.
The 30-second video starts with a prologue, where a demon gets defeated by a hero. It then shows the main characters Vamirio and Helck, where the latter greets the audience and engages in a fight, punching off one of his opponents.
Tatsuo Satō will direct the series with Satelight as the animating studio. Toshizo Nemoto and Mitsutaka Hirota are writing the screenplay. Nanaki Nanao’s designs will be adapted for animation by Yoshinori Deno. Yoshihisa Hirano is writing the music.
The visuals below display the main characters Helck and Vamirio, respectively.

Nanaki Nanao first launched Helck in Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website and MangaONE app in May 2014. The series ended in December 2017 and has been collected into 12 volumes. Viz Media is publishing the manga in English.
It does bring some curiosity as to what Helck truly wants by entering into a tournament of demons. There is certainly more to this, and we’ll only get to know once the anime airs in July.
