House of the Dragon’s penultimate episode will stream on HBO Max this Sunday, setting the stage for the season 1 finale and marking the beginning of Dance of the Dragons.
HBO released official images of this week’s episode 9, titled “The Green Council,” and the stills from the upcoming episode point to the plan devised by Alicent and the rest of the Greens to go behind Rhaenyra’s back and install Aegon on the Iron Throne.
Following the misunderstanding that Viserys created in Alicent’s mind with his last words, Alicent moves to name Aegon as the next king of Westeros with the help of the Hand. Rhaenyra and Daemon, who’ve returned to Dragonstone for the time being, are oblivious to all this.
The images released by HBO days before episode 9’s release are shown below:
All these images highlight Rhaenyra and Daemon’s absence and how Alicent and Otto Hightower keep Viserys’ death under wraps until they can have Aegon on the throne. If Viserys’ death were formally announced, Rhaenyra would claim her right to the throne, and Alicent’s wish to have her child as king will never come true.
Rhaenyra’s supporters are numbered, but she still has some to defend her right and the late King’s true wishes. But will they be able to stop the Green Council from betraying Rhaenyra and essentially starting a civil war?
Alicent and the rest of the Green Council will not rest till Aegon is King. Will Rhaenyra be able to reverse their wrongdoing if their plan actually succeeds? Or will Alicent’s plan remain a failure, and the Black Queen will claim her Iron Throne in the season finale?
