HBO Max to Launch in Latin America in Late June 2021

WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform HBO Max will officially roll out in much of Latin America and the Caribbean markets in late June 2021, a step forward for the service currently available only in the U.S.

Given the entirely new streaming experience, audiences in the territories will soon enjoy a world-class content offering that includes the most admired and fan-favorite programming from WarnerMedia’s international family of brands like HBO, DC, and Warner Bros.

“We are thrilled for the launch of HBO Max in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is the first step in bringing WarnerMedia’s Direct-to-Consumer service to consumers outside of the U.S., and around the world,”

Johannes Larcher, Head of HBO Max International

“By combining HBO with the very best of WarnerMedia’s series and film catalog, as well as locally produced content from master-storytellers in Latin America, HBO Max will offer fans in the region an unforgettable and enriching entertainment experience.”

The service hit the United States on May 27, 2020. It was partially misunderstood upon launch, as many users were confused as to whether they still had access to it through their pre-existing HBO Now, HBO Go, or regular HBO cable subscriptions. Nevertheless, HBO Max’s U.S. subscriptions grew to 17.2 million as of December 2020, thanks to high demand for Wonder Woman 1984 and other titles, and now other parts of the world are eager to gain permission to the service.

Latin American and Caribbean countries are the next in line for HBO Max, which will inaugurate in 39 territories across the region in late June. The full list of countries contains Argentina, Barbados, Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela, and dozens more. Moreover, WarnerMedia plans to launch the service in European markets like Spain and Portugal later this year.

HBO Max’s market is anticipated to continue in the wake of its vast decision to debut movies on the platform simultaneously with theaters. That’s WarnerMedia’s hope, as the company casts its global subscriber digits to hit between 75 million and 90 million over the next four years.

While that growth pales in comparison to Disney+ during its first year, HBO Max’s bold new decision and a broad library, comprising everything from classic Hollywood fare to beloved animated shows, guarantee the streamer will enjoy smooth growth over the long term.
