The long-awaited Season 3 of Harley Quinn, an animated series based on the titular DC Comics character, has finally been queued up for release in the next month.
Just weeks after the release of a still frame of Harley and Poison Ivy enjoying the summertime on a beach set in Season 3, HBO Max officially announced a release window in July.
The show will return with a shift to streaming on HBO max, all three seasons, joined by other series like Titans, Doom Patrol, and Young Justice. Also, Stargirl will be streamed by the CW following its shift from the now-defunct DC Universe programming.
HBO Max announced the timeframe for the release of Harley Quinn Season 3, along with Genndy Tartovosky’s Primal Season 2 and Nikki Glaser’s Comedy Special. Though no exact date has been disclosed yet, fans can expect that and a trailer to be released shortly.
Returning after a two-year break, the show depicts the life of Harley Quinn, who sets out to make her name on her own as a criminal overlord in Gotham after breaking up with The Joker. The show follows her adventures with her friend and crime-partner Poison Ivy as they build their own criminal empire in Gotham, rivaling that of Harley’s ex.
The show first aired in November 2019, with the second season in 2020, and both seasons met with positive feedback from critics and audiences alike. The show will be coming back next month after Season 2’s last scene of Harley and Poison Ivy confessing their love for the other and racing off into the horizon away from Gotham PD.
The show hosts quite a range of voice actors, including Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco voicing Harley Quinn, Lake Bell voicing Poison Ivy, and Alan Tudyk voicing The Joker. The supporting cast includes Doctor Psycho played by Tony Hale, Batman by Diedrich Bader, and Jim Gordon by Christopher Meloni. Ron Funches, Jason Alexander, and J.B. Smoove also voice other characters in the animated series.
New characters have been added to the list for Season 3, including Harvey Guillén voicing Nightwing and The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn, playing a fictionalized version of himself. Sam Richardson has also been cast for an undisclosed character in the third season.
Co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker has also teased new content from Season 3, including an episode dedicated to Batman: The Animated Series, where Harley’s character originated. The show will also lead to a spinoff featuring Kite Man, Poison Ivy’s ex-lover.
What lies in store for Harley and Poison Ivy’s love and their adventures together will unravel in July. Fans have been antsy for a new season, and will finally be rewarded—but only time will tell what awaits them.
