Hawkeye Trailer Breakdown: 8 Amazing Reveals And Easter Eggs

Marvel dropped the first Hawkeye trailer yesterday, and I am loving it. It’s got sass. It’s got humor. It’s got tons of action, and I can’t wait for the series to release. I don’t want to give fanboy vibes, but I think Clint Barton as Hawkeye will have some of the most hilarious and witty moments in the upcoming series.

If that wasn’t enough, Kate Bishop just debuted into the MCU, and she is all kinds of charming. Hawkeye and his fangirl protege have the perfect chemistry fighting side by side.

Alright, alright. I’ll stop going all over the place and start from the beginning. The trailer has quite a lot to unpack. There’s a clear indication of what the overall premise is going to be. But besides that, there are a lot of easter eggs waiting for us. Let’s not waste time and jump right in Hawkeye style – facing the sky with an impeccable athletic posture and arrow being loaded for one last shot.

1. Plot And Premise

Jeremy Renner is back as Hawkeye in his own series. According to the trailer, the plot picks up after the events of End Game in a post-blip world. Hawkeye just wants to spend a lavish Christmas with his kids to make up for the 5 years lost due to Thanos’ snap. But his past as the Ronin catches up to him.

Ronin

News suggests that Ronin is back on the streets, and Kate Bishop, a brilliant archer finds her role model Hawkeye. The two are paired together, and an adventure of action, comedy, and marvelous villains ensues.

That’s the premise in a nutshell, and I think it’s got the classic family man/spy trying to get back to his family for Christmas. The series is expected to be this transition of legacy from Hawkeye to Kate Bishop, who might have a more significant role in the large scheme of things in the MCU.

2. Release Date

The Hawkeye trailer ended with the release date of November 24. The miniseries will have 6 episodes, and most probably, an episode will be released every week. This way, it ties in perfectly with the holiday season.

3. Adaption From Hawkeye Comics By Matt Fraction And David Aja

Marvel never really sticks to the comics completely. It picks up elements, traits and tailors the plot and characters to weave their own narrative and emotions.

Clint Barton as Ronin

By the looks of the Hawkeye trailer, a large chunk of the plot is based on the Hawkeye comic series written and crafted by Matt Fraction and David Aja.

The characters, scenes and the entire tonality of the trailer look pretty inspired by this comic series, and if I am being honest, it gives me the perfect Ryan Reynolds action-comedy vibe, and I love it. I mean, who doesn’t.

4. Kate Bishop: World’s Greatest Archer

Yup! Kate Bishop pretty unabashedly said that she is the world’s greatest archer to Hawkeye. Full points for modesty, I guess. Just like Clint Barton himself, who bragged that he played 18, shot 18, and just can’t seem to miss. #CallBack

So the trailer gave us a few quick notes about Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

Kate Bishop and Hawkeye
  • She is an incredible archer who is a superfan of Hawkeye.
  • Her suit is pretty close to how it was in the comics.
  • She most probably is the Ronin impersonator.
  • When she tags with Barton, she saves his life or at least tries.
  • The two are also flaunting their signature pose as they jump off the building.
  • Oh, and also, she is incredibly funny and badass.

The trailer makes it look like Hawkeye is going in search of the impersonator to investigate the issue. However, I think there’d be more reason than that for him to investigate. Eventually, he bumps into Kate Bishop, and the two become the tag team partners for the rest of the mission.

5. The Tracksuit Draculas

Tracksuit Draculas

Speaking of the mission, we see henchmen from The Tracksuit Draculas attacking Barton and Kate with a molotov cocktail. This gives us possible hints on who the main villain in the series might be.

In comics, they were led by Ivan Banionis, and perhaps we could see his debut here. There are also speculations are that this could be the debut of Kingpin in the MCU because crimes in NYC usually tie back to the Kingpin either directly or indirectly.

I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out.

6. Rogers: The Musical

Rogers: The Musical

After the blip, the world has indeed changed. People like Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, and Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, are equivalent to martyrs who fought and made the world a better place.

So, needless to say, they’re now heroes about him stories are told. Rogers: The Musical essentially is a musical drama where we see different characters such as Thor, Loki, and others being played by people. Hawkeye takes his kids to the musical as part of their quality time together.

7. Clint Barton Is Wearing Hearing Aids

In comics, Hawkeye is a character who is partially deaf, but in films, we’ve never seen him talk about this aspect. However, in the Hawkeye trailer, he is wearing hearing aids, and we still don’t know why.

After all, he’s been through enough explosions unaffected, but perhaps the end game explosion where Thanos ship tears through the time machine and shoots continuous missiles at the Avengers facility might have caused some damage to his ears.

8. Character Appearances In The Series

There were a series of new characters along with some old ones who might play a significant role in the show.

8.1. Barton’s Wife And Kids

Barton’s Family

We see Barton spending time with his kids in the first few moments of the trailer, but his wife Linda is nowhere to be seen. However, later on, we see him telling his wife that he’ll be back in a day or two. So Linda is still in the picture, and clearly, retirement didn’t ever suit him #CallBack2

8.2. Maya Lopez/Echo

We get just one brief shot that shows Alacqua Cox’s Maya Lopez, aka Echo. In the comics, Echo had donned the mantle of Ronin for quite some time. She also possessed taskmaster sort of abilities wherein she can mimic her opponents’ fighting styles.

This makes me wonder if she will pose as Ronin in the series. We still don’t know how she fits into the storyline, but she isn’t the best of people to encounter.

8.3. Vera Farmiga As Eleanor Bishop

Vera Farmiga is playing Kate Bishop’s mom Eleanor, and she looks pretty malicious to me with the Cersei-type vibes. When you know Vera Farmiga is in a role, it’s going to be mind-blowing. I’m guessing Marvel has given a significant role, and I just can’t wait to find out what that is.

Seriously though, she looks way eviler than Maya Lopez. I think it’s the gaze that can literally see through my soul; it’s giving me literal chills.

8.4. Lucky The Pizza Dog

Now, fans of the MCU who haven’t read much of the comics, let me introduce you to the showstopper. Lucky in Matt and David’s comics is the third star besides Barton and Bishop. He even had an entire issue from his POV. It was hilarious.

Lucky the Pizza Dog

In the one shot we see of him, he is blind, just like in the comics. Also, while we’re talking about the comics, Barton had taken the dog from Ivan Banionis to get him treated. The more I write this, the more I think I’ll get to see Ivan in the series.

8.5. People Who Weren’t There – Yelena And Valentina

These two characters spoke in the Black Widow post-credit scene where Valentina convinces Yelena that Hawkeye was responsible for her sister’s death. We don’t see any sign of both these intriguing characters in the Hawkeye trailer, but I’m counting on them making an appearance, even if it is merely for a post-credit scene.

That is all, guys! Hawkeye is releasing on 24th November, and I’m pretty darn sure it’s going to be a hit and not a miss. #BadPunIntended
