Every Hawkeye episode so far has not failed to amaze us. But the directors promise that Episode 5 is the one to watch out for!
As per an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, directors Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood, who work under the pseudonyms of Bert and Bertie, have teased a shift in tone for the upcoming episode:
I don’t think we can be specific. But we can say that you never know where the show is going to go, whether that be with characters, or discoveries, but also with tone. You might be settling into a certain tone, and then suddenly, you’re in a very different tone. So that’s one of the things we find so exciting about the show.
Bertie
(Bert and Bertie have also directed Episodes 3 and 4, while Rhys Thomas has helmed Episodes 1, 2 and 6.)
So far, the show has been a great blend of action, sincerity and comic moments. It truly is a story with a heart, with the holiday season aptly in the background.
The change of tone could be zeroing in on all the threats that await the Hawkeye duo, going for a more somber penultimate episode. Clint did say at the end of Episode 4, “This has gotten very real, very quickly.”

There are quite a lot of forces at play here. Yelena’s entry into Hawkeye is thanks to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s scheming. Echo’s presence is teeming with the threats of the Tracksuit Mafia and their boss. Lastly, Kate has to deal with the possibility of Jack being a murderer and a very suspicious mother.
Bertie is right, we really have no idea how things will go down.
As per TVLine’s industry insider Matt Webb Mitovich, Episode 5 would “blow up Twitter a bit.” Naturally, fans took this to be a sure sign that Maya and the Tracksuits’ boss is none other than Kingpin, moreover hoping that Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role.

As Episode 5 airs on December 15, two days before the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, fans also hope that Hawkeye’s story ties in with the rumors of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil appearing in NWH.
Anticipation is building up. Can we get a teaser clip for Hawkeye Episode 5 already?
