The universally beloved Harry Potter franchise is back with a TV series. Declared to be a faithful remake of J K Rowling’s books, the show will span 7 seasons, one season devoted to each book. To say I am excited is an understatement.
Yes, I agree, it’s just been a little over a decade since the last Harry Potter movie (Deathly Hallows: Part Two in 2011) was released. Our minds have loved the cast and crew of the HP movies for their incredible performances and for recreating the magic of the books on-screen. I do not ever want to disassociate Alan Rickman from Snape, Evanna Lynch from Luna, and Emma Watson from Hermione to just name a few.
However, my need to see more of the magic and world on-screen (however small the screen) particularly that was present in Rowling’s books but didn’t make it to the big screen, puts me in utmost support of the newly announced series. And what if a new cast, as they have announced, can bring more love, friendship, joy, and magic to us?
The cast of Max’s Harry Potter spin-off TV series is yet to be officially announced. However, fans have begun speculating and for years several popular re-imaginations of the HP cast have taken place. An HP Tiktok Account has revealed rumored casting details that have gone viral.
Let’s get into the details!
1. Will Toby Woolf play Harry Potter in Max’s Harry Potter spin-off?
Toby Woolf is rumored to play Harry Potter on-screen in Max’s latest addition to the Harry Potter franchise. The British actor is known for the TV shows Pistol (2022), Summer of Rockets (2019), and The Last Post (2017), the movie Rare Beasts (2019), and the short film On the Beaches.
The spin-off will feature Harry from his first year at Hogwarts and thus will give us another chance (like we got during the movies) to watch the young cast of the new series grow up along with the decade-long show.
Toby starred in On The Beaches opposite GOT and The Last of Us fame Bella Ramsey. Rare Beasts feature Billie Piper and our very own Remus Lupin, David Thewlis, Leo Bill, and Lily James. Would this Harry Potter connection end up with Woolf as the latest Harry Potter?
2. Will Bronte Carmichael play Hermione Granger in Max’s Harry Potter TV series?
British actress, Bronte Carmichael, is rumored to play our favorite know-it-all, Hermione Granger in Max’s new Harry Potter spin-off. Carmichael was most recently seen as young Biddy in BBC’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations.
Daughter to actors Tristan Sturrock and Katy Carmichael, Bronte Carmichael played Leida, Mon Mothma’s daughter, in Star Wars: Andor (2022) and acted as Madeline Robin in Disney’s Christopher Robin (2018) which starred Ewan McGregor and Hayley Atwell as her parents. She also played Martha, one of Varys’ little birds, in GoT Season 8 and voiced Robin in the Oscar-nominated animated film Robin Robin (2021).
She has acted in a list of movies and TV series and stars as Laura Marlin in the Laura Marlin Mysteries TV movie. She also brought Skye D’ Branin to life on-screen in George R. R Martin’s Netflix original series Nightflyers among several others.
3. Will Joshua Pickering be the next Ron Weasley in Max’s Harry Potter TV series?
Joshua Pickering is rumored to play the red-haired member of the Golden Trio, Ron Weasley in the new Harry Potter TV series. He is known for his role as Jack in A Discovery of Witches (2021) series and is set to play John Darling in Peter Pan & Wendy (2023).
This British actor shares freckles with our beloved youngest son of the loving Weasley family. Could that be an omen regarding his destiny as our new Ron Weasley?
The child actor is also known for his role as young Michael in the TV series Safe Space (2022) and Liam, the protagonist, in the short film Hope After Suicide (2019).
4. Will Tom Felton finally play Lucius Malfoy in Max’s Harry Potter TV series?
Drum rolls, please! Tom Felton, who was the perfect Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies could be back in the new Harry Potter TV series by Max. And it is not a guest appearance! He is rumored to play Lucius Malfoy, Draco’s father in the Harry Potter spin-off.
From starring on-screen as Draco in the movies to playing his father in the TV series, Felton’s part in the HP universe could come full circle. In the movies, by the end, we saw Draco’s multi-faceted and unexpectedly emotional character brought to life by Felton in a way that had us all accepting him wholeheartedly in our hearts.
And this time around, we might be able to see his acting brilliance as he portrays the cold, mysterious, and eerily composed father of his original character. Felton has acted in plenty of shows and movies and his latest movies to be released are Canyon Del Muerto and Some Other Woman.
5. Will Adam Driver play the role of Severus Snape in Max’s Harry Potter reboot?
Adam Driver is rumored to play the role of Severus Snape, one of the series most loved characters and the one with the most shocking and emotional transformation in the eyes of the audience. The award-winning actor is known for playing Kylo Ren in Star Wars.
The late Alan Rickman will ‘Always’ be our Severus Snape. His love for the Harry Potter series was unparalleled and his performance as Severus Snivellus Snape was brilliant. The character with so many layers to himself and the billowing black cloak could not have been played better in the movies.
Adam Driver is the best casting for the role in the new Harry Potter TV series. This is a casting that makes sense, with his looks and acting prowess. But will he be a part of the spin-off? Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
6. Will Helen Mirren play Minerva McGonagall in Max’s Harry Potter reboot?
Helen Mirren, the host of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, is rumored to play Professor Minerva McGonagall in the new Harry Potter TV series. A self-claimed fan, she is known for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen and several other performances.
Mirren made her debut as the host of the Wizarding World quiz show and we saw her love for the Harry Potter series. I can see her donning the role of a witch in an official rendition of Harry Potter and who better to be than the talented Minerva McGonagall, Transfigurations professor at Hogwarts?
McGonagall is the Head of the House of Gryffindor and a strong ally against the Dark Order. She is a supporter of Dumbledore and has helped Harry crucially in fighting against Voldemort.
Mirren has starred in numerous movies and shows, other than her career on stage. Her latest release is Shazam! Fury of the Gods where she plays Hespera and she has starred in the Fast and Furious franchise, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Raising Helen, and S.O.S. Titanic to name a few. Her upcoming releases include Barbie and Fast X.
7. Will Blair Underwood play Albus Dumbledore in Max’s Harry Potter reboot?
Emmy Award-winner Blair Underwood is rumored to play the part of Albus Dumbledore in Max’s new Harry Potter spin-off. He is known for roles as attorney Jonathan Rollins in NBC’s L.A. Law and Dr. Ben Turner, the protagonist, in City of Angels among others.
Albus Dumbledore is one of the most prominent characters in the Harry Potter universe and the movies. The Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he is a strong supporter of good and a strong believer in the power of love. Like Harry’s mentor in the series, he played a major part in the defeat of You-Know-Who or Lord Voldemort (I don’t mind saying his name too).
Blair Underwood has previously acted in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Three Women, When They See Us, and Murder in Mississippi among others in a plethora of TV shows and films. Do you think he can play the very wise, humorous, and powerful (one of the greatest wizards of all times) Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore? (P.S. I didn’t learn the entire name not to use it anywhere.)
