A month after announcing that the original cast of Harry Potter was returning to the Wizarding World, HBO Max has released the official poster for the special.
The poster features ten of the main cast members whom we watched grow up at Hogwarts. At the forefront is the Golden Trio surrounded by fellow Gryffindors, with Tom Felton being the only odd-Slytherin-out.
Besides Felton, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, other cast members seen on the poster include Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Alfred Enoch, Bonnie Wright. And to bring back some bittersweet memories, the twins, James and Oliver Phelps, are here too!
The image itself has a very Christmas-y vibe with candles floating in the background that resembles the school’s Great Hall.
The tagline for the special can also be seen, and it reads, “Welcome back to where the magic began.”

Earlier this month, HBO Max released the first image from the special featuring Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson sitting achboross a table in the Gryffindor common room.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will premiere on HBO Max this New Year’s Day, celebrating the first film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which reached its 20th anniversary this November.
Almost all of the original cast members will make an appearance during the special along with director Chris Columbus.
The Golden Trio:
In what seems like a strategic move made by the studio, J.K. Rowling, the creator of the wizarding world herself, has had no mentions at all. Rowling does not have much involvement in the special.
Sure, she will be seen in archival clips and images, but clearly, WB decided to play it safe to avoid backlash as the author was recently under fire for her controversial anti-trans comments.
Nonetheless, the hype around the franchise is slowly building up again, with WB releasing the first official trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore this Monday. The trailer showed the magic returning to Hogwarts and gave us the first look at Mads Mikkelsen’s version of Grindelwald.
Then there’s the Harry Potter trivia show, Hogwarts Tournament of Houses’ finale coming up on HBO Max.
Whether you still re-read the books religiously or eventually grew out of the phase of waiting by your door for your Hogwarts letter, the special will surely invoke some emotions when it comes out on January 1, 2022.
