The birthday of Masako Nozawa, the legendary voice actress behind Goku, is here! Voice actors are an essential part of the anime industry. Along with the animation techniques, they are also the ones who bring a character to life.
A character’s emotions are shown through the voice of the cast members. We, as anime fans, love the voice actors/actresses who carefully construct the image of an anime persona.
Masako Nozawa celebrates her birthday on 25th October, and she is turning 82 this year. She has been the voice actress of Goku ever since the debut of Dragon Ball anime in 1986.
Not only has she voiced Son Goku but also Gohan and Gotenks. It will be tough to imagine the Dragon Ball series without her voice and expressions.
Currently, she is voicing Goku in the Dragon Ball Super anime. She has also worked for other major anime like:
- Doctor Kureha in One Piece
- Asura in Asura
- The narrator in Digimon Adventures
Although she likes to take on the roles of elderly women and grandmothers now, her career with some immortal characters will never be forgotten.
Animelab has posted a short video of Masako on Twitter to celebrate her birthday.
In the video, the evergreen voice actress tells us how she plans on playing Goku for some more years. This obviously melted the hearts of us Dragon Ball fans. Then she very cutely re-enacted the “Kamehameha” move.
She is nicknamed “The Eternal Boy” by the Japanese media due to her outstanding and long-lasting work in the Dragon Ball series.
She has also received 2 Guinness world records for voicing Goku (longest time voicing a video game character).
Masako Nozawa has experience with live-actions as well. She also received an award at the 26th Japanese Movie Critics Awards ceremony for the Best Voice Actor category.
