Paramount Plus’ Halo The Series’ premiere episode definitely worked the charm on keeping audiences on their toes from the very start.
Towards the episode’s end, Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) escaped with survivor Kwan Ha, leaving things messy back home for Dr. Halsey (Natascha McElhone).
In season 1 episode 2 preview, Dr. Halsey discusses a plan to get Master Chief back “peacefully” with Admiral Hood (Keir Dullea) and working on a safe plan to ensure he never escapes (read: disobeys) again.
The doctor shares that the Silver Team is prepping to search for John 117, aka Master Chief. It does seem like Dr. Halsey knows exactly why he disobeyed their orders but feigns uncertainty over the object that led him to do so.
Admiral Hood catches on Dr. Halsey says she “doesn’t know” anything about the mysterious object from Madrigal, but doesn’t push on. He then asks the doctor how she plans on taking care of him once the superhuman is back, for which Dr. Halsey hints at “an insurance plan.”
Episode 2, titled Unbound, will open the gates to the consequences of Master Chief’s actions. With his suppressed memories coming back thanks to Madrigal’s strange object, it remains to be seen how he will walk on his new chosen path.
John’s unpredictable behavior will also lead to a newer, improved storyline that focuses on emotions – a different route from the source video game the series’ creators consciously took.
Meanwhile, the VFX and cinematography for the first episode were applauded by viewers. The only thing that irked many was Master Chief removing his helmet multiple times.
The next episode will most probably introduce AI Cortana, voiced by the original Cortana actress in the game, Jen Taylor.
Halo The Series airs every Thursday on Paramount Plus.
