Big Team Battle is arguably one of the best things about Halo Infinite. This 12-person-per-side mode lets you dive into a mesmerizing world that captures the entire spectrum of Halo by brimming with plasma explosions, scintillating gunplay, and vehicular havoc.
But unfortunately, it isn’t working as 343 Industries intended.
For quite some time, Halo Infinite’s BTB mode has been infected with matchmaking issues that made it next to impossible for large parties to get into matches. Those who did manage to get in weren’t exactly lucky either, as they were frequently kicked out.
A patch to fix the matter at hand was rolled out a fortnight ago as well, but it failed to do its job and ended up making the situation even worse for some players.
But as it turns out, 343 Industries refused to give up, went back to the lab, and turned things around in a second attempt with the February 3 Update.
Halo Infinite’s February 3 Update has finally managed to address the game’s BTB matchmaking issues while introducing a plethora of much-needed fixes and tweaks. The update downloads automatically and weighs under 1.1GB on all platforms.
Fortunately, this time, the patch is not a prelude to heartbreak as the excruciating BTB problems now cease to exist, and there are signs of improvement as well.
Listed below are all the changes and adjustments that the February 3 Update has brought to Halo Infinite:
- Matchmaking service improvements for Big Team Battle (BTB). Players should find full matches quicker and more consistently.
- Scorpion Tanks and Wraiths will appear more frequently on BTB maps.
- Fireteam members in BTB matches will have the selected Fireteam Marker color but may still start the match in different areas of the map.
- Join in progress rules updated to avoid matchmaking into games that are nearly complete.
- Changes to Oddball in both Ranked and Arena Multiplayer playlists
- If the score is tied when a round’s timer runs out, one minute is added back to the timer. If the score is tied at the end of the additional minute, then the round will be declared a tie.
- The match will end if two separate rounds end in a tie, and the victory will go to the team with more rounds won.
- Halo Championship Series (HCS) variant of Free-For-All Slayer added to the Custom Game modes list.
- In Custom Games, changes to Free-For-All Slayer, FFA Oddball, Neutral Flag, and Tactical Slayer game options update correctly.
