3. Episode 22 Recap
In episode 22, Coach Kurosu reveals that even the best teams and players will need to try new things to stay at the top. He asks Riseki not to hold onto memories of the past and go ahead challenging himself.
Being inspired by the coach’s words, Riseki steps onto the court and lands a service ace right away.
Then Ukai calls for a time-out to break Inarizaki’s scoring flow. After the time out, Riseki serves again, and this time Tanaki manages to receive it. However, Aran ties the score to 11-11 with a powerful spike.
Riseki moves off the court after his third serve and gets congratulated for his performance. He vows to do better next time by scoring at least 3 points.
Meanwhile, Asahi is ready to give his 100 percent. He receives Osamu’s serve, Kageyama directs it to Tanaka, whose cross-shot gets blocked by Omimi. He labels Tanaka as a weaker version of Bokuto.
Osamu’s next serve is received by Asahi again, and Kageyama tries to land a spike out of it. Miya twins surprise everyone with their reverse minus tempo quick attack. Spiker Osamu sets the ball, and setter Atsumu spikes the ball past Karasuno’s defense.
The reverse minus tempo quick attack was just a fluke but caused Karasuno’s anxiety to rise. It seems Karasuno is starting to panic, and Atsumu manages to block Asahi’s spike.
Atsumu tricks Karasuno by baiting Hinata and Tanaka to block him when he was attempting for a receive. Takinoue and Shimada notice that Inarizaki’s rotation will have Atsumu in the back row, giving the twins the perfect opportunity to attempt their freak quick attack again.
Hinata renders everyone speechless with his perfect receive on Aran’s powerful spike and keeps the ball alive. Making Kageyama utter the phrase “Nice Receive” that he never thought to say to Hinata someday.
We get to see flashbacks of all the incidents that pushed Hinata this far. We get to see what went through Hinata’s mind as Aran spikes back the ball, and Hinata receives it in the absence of their libero.
However, all these attempts to score goes to waste, and Inarizaki scores from it. Ukai calls for a time-out, giving the players some time to uplift their spirits.
In the time out, Hinata’s positive mindset gives a ray of hope to the other players. Kageyama hilariously denies to appreciate Hinata’s receive. He asks Kageyama to be sure to watch the next receive he makes.
