3. Episode 21 Recap
In episode 21, we witnessed a rivalry between Tsukishima and Suna. Tsukishima has formulated a plan to counter Suna. Turning the spiker versus blocker battle into spiker versus six players by letting Suna hit exactly where he expected.
Suna soon figures out that Tsukishima has been forcing him to play cross shot on purpose. He thanks Tsukishima for allowing him to get clean spikes.
Ukai sends Kinoshita to serve, who continues with his mental service aces, even moments before his actual serve. He is so focused that even all the cheering of his friends and the audience didn’t have an impact on him.
Unfortunately, he fails to deliver a service ace, and Inarizaki’s Aran spikes and scores from it. Kinoshita is removed from the court for the final time, and he admires the skills of the first years.
Nishinoya says that he was scared of many things as a child, and his grandfather taught him to overcome his fears. The old man was different from others and showed him to try different things and cherish them.
We get to see flashbacks from Nishinoya’s past. He admits that he was scared of Atsumu’s service so much that he failed to move, but his grandfather inspires him to keep going.
Nishinoya manages to receive Atsumu’s float serve, and Ashashi lands a spike from it through synchronized attacks.
Aran recalls his memories of the Miya twins before they became famous in the volleyball world. They never failed to compete against each other. Osamu was better skilled between the two, but Atsumu kept trying to catch up.
Aran believes that Astsumu’s greatest gift isn’t his physique or talent but rather that he has Osamu. When Atsumu was invited to All-Japan Youth Camp, Osamu admits that Atsumu possibly loves volleyball a bit more than he does.
Back to the ongoing match, Akagi receives Asahi’s spike and immediately realizes that the ball is low. Atsumu goes into a deep lunge and makes an overhand set to Osamu, who scores from it.
