Japanese anime is a treasure house for sports lovers. Great sports anime like Free!, Yuri On Ice, Slam Dunk, and Kuroko’s Basketball have been released over the years. Amongst these anime, Haikyu!! has managed to stand apart as a volleyball anime/manga.
Haikyu!! as a volleyball or sports anime has achieved popularity amongst fans. The depictions of the match and the techniques used are all too similar to those used in actual volleyball matches.
The real-life depth of the anime is added from Furudate’s experience in volleyball.
In a recent tweet by Weekly Shonen Jump, it was announced that Haikyu!! will collaborate with the V. League Division 1 to host a live match on August 16.
Players from the ten teams of Division 1 will be selected to have a match as Schweiden Adlers and MSBY Blackjackals.
The match schedule has also been posted on the official website of V. League. It will take place in the Sendai City Gymnasium of the Miyagi Prefecture.
The players will be wearing the uniforms of Schweiden Adlers and MSBY Blackjackals and competing against each other.
The already selected players from the teams according to official tweets by V. League are:
- Taishi Onodera ( JT Thunders Hiroshima) as Kei Tsukishima
- Shin Tehara (FC Tokyo) as Tobio Kageyama
- Hiroaki Asano (JTEKT Stings) as Shoyo Hinata
- Ryōma Fujioka (Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adlers) as Koshi Sugawara
- Kenya Fujinaka ( SUNTORY Sunbirds) as Daichi Sawamura
- Ryōta Denda ( Wolf Dogs Nagoya) as Tadashi Yamaguchi
- Yu Kuriki ( VC Nagano Tridents) as Chikara Ennoshita
- Tomohiro Yamamoto ( Osaka Blazers Sakai) as Yu Nishinoya
- HIDETOMO Hoshino ( Toray Arrows) as Asahi Azumane
- Yasunari Kodama ( Panasonic Panthers) as Ryunosuke Tanaka
The V. League is the professional level volleyball league for men as well as women in Japan. The league was founded in 1994.
The ten participating men’s teams are JT Thunders Hiroshima, Suntory Sunbirds, Wolf Dogs Nagoya, Osaka Blazers Sakai, JTEKT Stings, Panasonic Panthers, Toray Arrows, FC Tokyo, VC Nagano Tridents and Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler.
The second cour of Haikyu!! Season 4 will now release in October instead of July due to the pandemic delay.
The Haikyu × V. League collaboration match can be seen as a promotional event for the anime as well. Haikyu is also collaborating with Tobu Zoo for an event in October.
