3. How Did The Haikyu!! Manga End?
The Manga concluded its eight-year-long run on 20th July, with chapter 402, featuring a time skip to the Tokyo Olympics.
The Final chapter took off with some good old fashioned nostalgia in the form of Karasuno and other team’s color illustrations, and then the story finally started. We were given a glimpse into our favorite characters’ lives as they prepared to watch the Tokyo Olympics and cheer on their old friends.
The chapter then moved on to the Olympic venue and introduced the teams participating in the Tokyo Men’s Volleyball tournament, i.e., Argentina and Japan. Just like most fans guessed, the commentators introduced Oikawa as the setter of the former team.
This iconic moment was set up with close-ups of Kageyama, Ushiwaka, and Iwaizumi while Oikawa’s past words echoed in the background. His “petty pride” was indeed never forgotten, and his rivals awaited him at the world stage.
Furthermore, the greatest decoy, Hinata, was introduced to be a part of Japan’s team, along with Kageyama, Bokuto, Sakusa, Ushijima, and others. The match proceeds, and we see the famous quick of the freak duo, just on a much larger stage. Their attack is sealed by an iconic fist bump.
The end of this match was never shown; however, if one is to describe it in Oikawa’s words “One Extravangant Family Quarrel” does it justice.
The last panel takes place in Rome, where the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship is taking place. The year is 2022, and with a net separating them, Kageyama and Hinata once again face each other in a bid to win.
4. Will There Be A Sequel?
Haikyu!! manga will likely have a sequel which will deal with Haikyu!! Olympics – we will see our superstars Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio playing Olympic Volleyball alongside Bokuto, Hoshiyomi, Ushijima and Miya Atsumu.
- Kengan Ashura received a sequel titled Kengan Omega that followed the series two years after the end of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament on Ganryu Island.
- Baki The Grappler had also received two sequels titled New Grappler Baki in 1995 and Baki: Son of Ogre in 2005.
- A sequel was also seen for Diamond no Ace when it received a sequel Diamond no Ace Act II in 2015 after its nine-year-long run from 2006.
However, It is quite possible that this is the final time we will see our favorite characters.
Fans can only hope that Furudate Sensei has plans to continue the series in the future and allow its readers to see their beloved characters and their pursuits once again.
While the Manga has ended, there are still quite a few things to look out for, such asthe Haikyu!! Season 4 – Cour 2 that is set to air in October. There have also been rumors regarding a Stage play coming later this year.
