Hades has been one of the most talked-about games of the past year. Developed by Supergiant Games, this rogue-like dungeon crawler title has been showered with praise from gamers and critics alike.
What launched as a PC exclusive then expanded to the Nintendo Switch and is now available on Xbox and PlayStation. Despite releasing just a couple of days ago, Hades has become Metacritic’s highest-rated game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
First reported by VGC, Hades has been quick to climb the ranks on both consoles, surpassing all other titles on the way to the coveted “Highest-Rated Game” spot.
On the Xbox, Hades has an overall score of 94, ranking it higher than Microsoft Flight Simulator at 90, and It Takes Two rated at 89. Under those are Hitman 3, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, and Tetris Effect.
On the PS5, Hades has received a ranking of 93. We assume the docked point, compared to the Xbox version, is due to the crashes present on the PS5 version at launch. But, it is still a point higher than the previously highest-rated PS5 game Demon’s Souls, which sits at 92.
Below that is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 at 90. Below that, titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, and Disco Elysium: The Final Cut are all tied at 89.
On the Nintendo Switch, Hades is ranked at the same score as the PS5, at 93. This makes it the fifth highest-rated game on that system. It is surpassed in ranking by games such as Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild.
Hades has continued to dominate the gaming scene, and this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. It even won the Game of the Year award while competing against massive names such as The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima. And this was while the game was only available on the PC and Nintendo Switch.
Hades is a great example of what indie games can do and how they can shake up the scene. While we might not get a sequel, we’ll always have the original to enjoy.
