Summary
- Rockstar Games is tasked with curbing the recent leaks that revealed 4 GB of the source code for GTA 5.
- Insider sources reveal that this code was supposed to be leaked on Christmas Day to provoke Rockstar Games.
- The leak also reveals several single player DLCs, code for Bully 2 and another unnamed Rockstar Project.
Rockstar Games is one of the biggest developers in the world. With titles like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, there is no doubt that they are incredibly competent as game developers. However, they leave much to be desired on the security front.
Rockstar Games is the subject of yet another leak, with 4GB of Grand Theft Auto V’s source code being available online. This leak comprised mainly of code and was spotted by @GTAFocal on Twitter. The source code leak also confirmed the plans for the 8 DLCs that were later canceled for GTA V.
The same outlet mentions that this source code was previously shared between individuals before this leak. @morsmutual_ on Twitter, who has verified a lot of GTA V leaks in the past, said that to their knowledge, the source code was planned to be released on Christmas Day to enrage Rockstar Games.
@morsmutual_ also revealed on Twitter that the leak confirmed all the canceled single-player DLCs, which are 8 in total. This includes Manhunt, Norman, Relationship, Enterprise, Prologue, Assassination, Agent Trevor, and Liberty City.
The same source also reveals that Rockstar had plans for Bully 2 and an unannounced title in the works that was codenamed “Agent.” All of this was reportedly done to push the more profitable and more accessible GTA Online, which just required a regular amount of effort from time to time.
The worst part is that this leak also had GTA 6 Python Code elements. This leak is a result of the hack at Rockstar last year.
Rockstar is trying to zero in on the sources, with one of the hackers getting sentenced to “indefinite hospital confinement” due to health concerns. However, the leaks are spreading across the internet like wildfire.
The source code leak of GTA V might have severe repercussions as it might make cheating easier for GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Rockstar might have to put on the thinking caps to avert this imminent danger and take some drastic but necessary steps soon.
