After their hiring at DC studios in 2022, Safran and Gunn have finally blessed the fandom with a long list of DCU shows and films, which will start pouring in from 2025.
Among those newly announced projects lies yet another Batman reboot, which will not involve Ben Affleck or Robert Pattinson donning the billionaire vigilante’s mask. The new Batman project has the fandom divided in their opinions about an entirely new Batman in the DCU.
Among several complaints about a new Batman and how the new story will be set in the middle of the Caped Crusader’s vigilantism, some are also excited to see a new dynamic of the Bat. There have been many screen adaptations of the Batman comics, but only a few live-action projects about the DC Comics character have centered on the Bat and his children.
Batman’s other sidekicks, such as Nightwing and Batgirl, have been shown in a few live-action series, but they have yet to focus on the youngest Robin, Bruce’s son Damian Wayne. Gunn-Safran’s new DCU slate includes a film titled Brave and Bold, which will tackle the life of Batman as a father to the young but deadly Damian/Robin.
Brave and Bold is a film that will go on to introduce “the Bat Family” to the DCU fandom, starting with Robin, a.k.a. Damian Wayne.
The young Robin was described as an “assassin” and “murderer” by Gunn, hinting at the Morrison comics where the little Wayne was born of Talia Al Ghoul and became one of the deadliest assassins of Gotham City.
We don’t know how exactly Brave and Bold will handle this dynamic between the father and son and how they’ll tackle the “little son of a bitch,” but it sure will be interesting. Fans have taken to social media to state their thoughts on this new path the DCU is taking, and you can view some of the tweets below:
Gunn’s statement also states that despite Brave and Bold bringing a new Batman to the plate, Matt Reeves’ Batman (Robert Pattinson) will still be batting in another universe.
The film has just been announced, and fans have already formed their opinions on it. But only time will tell how the DCU plans to bring alive this Bat family and how that will affect their success. But the duo’s big-picture plan should be given a chance, so we’ll just wait for more updates to form our opinions.
