The newly appointed CEOs of DC Studios recently revealed phase one of their plan after releasing the first chapter of the new DCU, DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Gunn and Safran’s plans stretch across years of content distributed among films, shows, video games, and more.
But with such big plans come big changes, and the DCU fandom is confused about who might be the new players in the upcoming improved DCU. After Henry Cavill’s Superman recast and the Batman reboot, the fandom questioned the recasting of other Justice League members, namely Flash and Wonder Woman.
And now Gunn has shed some light on Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller’s future in the new DCU. In his Instagram post about the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos, Gunn answered some comments complaining about letting go of Cavill and Gadot.
In his answer, he stated DC Studios sat down with the Wonder Woman star a few weeks ago, signaling a possible renewal of her previous contracts with the company. He also addressed the rumors about firing Gadot, claiming he hadn’t fired her. He also maintained that Miller’s film was done before his and his partner’s appointment; thus, it was beyond their control.

According to Gunn’s interviews, the entire DCU will be reset with The Flash, allowing the creators to make these expansive changes viable. Since the announced DCU slate includes a Wonder Woman prequel centered around the Myscira before the hero’s time, it is unclear how or when Gadot will reprise her role.
There is a chance for Gal Gadot to return to Wonder Woman in other projects in beyond Gods and Monsters, but that won’t be for a while. We can’t expect to see her in Paradise Lost since the prequel is set long before her birth, but maybe a cameo is a reasonable method to confirm her place in the DCU.
As for Miller, Gunn’s comment about The Flash was vague. Gunn has promised that they plan to have a more detailed discussion about Miller’s future after The Flash, but the future seems wobbly given Miller’s extensive controversies.
DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters will begin in 2025, so there’s a lot of material to look forward to and leave the messy recasts to the DC Studios heads.
