Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket is a refreshing escape from the Newtype riddled history of the original Gundam series. Yoshiyuki Tomino did not pen this particular OVA, yet many fans liked it due to its departure from typical themes.
War in the Pocket’s narration of a small personal story during the One Year War has enjoyed the attention of many fans throughout the years. The time has finally come to bring back the classic OVA for a renewal.
A new manga based on Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket OVA will start serialization from 26th June in the Gundam Ace magazine. The manga will be penned by Hiroyuki Tamakoshi.
Hiroyuki Tamakoshi has previously worked on the Kido Senshi Gundam UC: Shishi no Kikan manga that ended last year. Thus he is already familiar with the mecha heavy genre.
Christina Mackenzie or Chris is one of the main characters of the OVA. Her exceptional piloting ability led her to be the test pilot for Gundam Alex. The story will be told from her point of view.
Bernie is an elite agent of Zeon who has been sent to destroy the prototype Gundam. However, he barely escapes death and befriends Al, an elementary school student, and Chris.
Neither Bernie nor Chris know the true nature of each other. In the upcoming manga, the fates of Chris, Bernie, and Al will be entangled forever.
The Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket OVA debuted in Japan in 1989 with 6 episodes. The emotionally charged side of the OVA was liked by many fans.
