The first official trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has just launched, and it points towards a tear-jerking end for our favorite heroes, especially Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper).
As we already know, this will be the final installment of the franchise and perhaps the last work of James Gunn in the MCU. It looks like Gunn will test our Guardians to the extreme and dive into their origins.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the trailer. Watch the trailer below:
Those were 2 minutes filled with action, emotion, and everything in between! The background music of ‘In the Meantime’ from Spacehog makes the trailer even more captivating!
The trailer starts with a panoramic shot of the starship Bowie entering an unknown planet. The Guardians of the Galaxy descend, and we hear Star Lord’s voiceover saying, “We were gone for quite a while”. Here, he is obviously referring to the events of the Infinity War, which pulverized the entire team.
The guardians are seen wearing a dark blue and red uniform to pay homage to Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett’s work on the canon comics.
The team then descends onto a planet that seems like the Earth. Only all the people have animal-like heads!
The aliens seem amicable at first, and a little rabbit-human passes the ball to Drax. He hurls the ball at her, which knocks her flat (facepalm). Nemesis follows, and the natives start throwing stones at them!
The next shot features a conversation between the Star-Lord and Mantis. “Don’t forget where you came from”, Mantis implores him.
The Guardians are seen adorning colorful spacesuits and jumping into what seems like a cancerous mass in space. It is followed by clips featuring our heroes walking through Knowhere with Nebula carrying an unconscious Star-Lord.
We already know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will dive into the origins of Rocket Racoon. It is teased heavily in the trailer as well.
In the next scene, Star-Lord laments, “We have been running our whole lives”. In response, Rocket draws his gun and says,” Pete, I am done running.”
Juxtaposed against these shots are scenes of Gamora fighting some unknown war and Mantis and Gamora supporting a wounded Drax while they attempt a prison break. But the most significant talking point is the sad love story of Rocket and Lyla. Lyla is introduced in the trailer, and she looks tired and injured.
We are introduced to Chukwudi Iwuji, the mad scientist responsible for creating human-animal hybrids called New Men. We think that he will be instrumental in deciphering the origins of Rocket.
Meanwhile, Rocket is injured on an unknown planet.
“We’ll all fly away together. One last time. Into the forever…that beautiful sky.”, he croaks, as the scene cuts to one where Rocket is hugging Lyla. It is enough to warm our tear glands up!
A trailer for a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is incomplete without some watertight action sequences. The final scenes show the first look of Adam Warlock as he engages in fierce combat with Nebula.
The muscular Groot says his iconic “ WE ARE GROOT” as he and Star-Lord stand back-to-back, firing continuously.
The trailer finally ends on a light-hearted note. Drax insists on killing everyone, and the Star-Lord is hell-bent on not doing that! It has an undertone of comedy, which is really needed after such an intense trailer!
Drax: I WILL KILL ANYONE WHO GETS IN OUR WAY!
Star-Lord: NOT ANYONE!
Drax: Kill a few people
Star-Lord: Kill no people!
Drax: Kill one guy, one stupid guy who no one loves.
Star-Lord: Now you are just making it sad!
