The second official trailer of The Flash is out, and naturally, the world is buzzing about it. Dual roles for Barry Allen and Batman decorate the movie along with none other than Supergirl. This in itself is exciting beyond thought. And to add on, remember General Zod from Man of Steel (2013)? He makes a comeback as the villain of The Flash!
Despite different DCEU characters and the same characters from different timelines appearing in the movie, Grant Gustin does not even have a cameo in the movie. “We just had to pick,” is director Andy Muschietti’s explanation to fans’ outrage and disbelief.
The Flash has Multiple Special Appearances
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Flash is Barry Allen’s story through and through (there are two of them from different timelines). However, Batmen (both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck) appear in all their glory, and so does Sasha Calle as Supergirl and Michael Shannon’s General Zod.
In The Flash, The Scarlet Speedster’s actions create a reality where General Zod is back, threatening destruction. The former, despite there being two versions of him) is badly in need of help to save the world and his parents from death again.
And here comes Batman into the picture! Correction: Batmen. Supergirl is there too. On top of that, several cameos are said to be kept under wraps. So why not the most obvious appearance of TV’s Barry Allen – Grant Gustin?
Grant Gustin’s Flash Did Not Find Room in The Flash
Grant Gustin has been playing the role of Flash for several years on The Flash TV series that airs on The CW Network. Talking about Gustin’s appearance in the movie, Director Muschietti said that, unfortunately, there wasn’t room to include Gustin’s take on Barry Allen.
Grant Gustin’s decade-long time as the beloved character ends this year as The Flash wraps up with Season 9. With several cameos from TV characters and past movies touted to be in DC’s The Flash, fans had all been waiting to glimpse their Barry Allen from TV on the big screen.
However, in the reception after the screening of The Flash, Andy Muschietti said that his initial assembly of cameos was four hours long and confirmed that Grant Gustin, in the end, did not receive a part in The Flash. He revealed that the actor almost had a cameo in the film as CW’s Flash and complimented the accomplishment of the series.
Muschietti said, “Of course, as I said before, the list of cameos…was huge. So obviously, we played with the idea of including DC characters from TV, but we just had to pick.”
Director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti also revealed some other DC Comics characters from earlier movies and series that could not be included in The Flash movie. They are Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman from the ‘70s TV series, Marlon Brando’s Jor-El from 1978’s Superman, Burgess Meredith’s Penguin, and Cesar Romero’s Joker from the 1960s Batman TV series.
Fans are Unhappy with Grant Gustin’s Absence in The Flash Movie
Grant Gustin’s Flash from the TV series was confirmed by Director Muschietti to not appear in The Flash movie. The release of the movie trailer has received mixed reactions from the audience, several of them criticizing DC for the move.
Gustin’s appearance in The Flash was considered inevitable by most fans. And this latest confirmation by Muschietti comes as a crushing disappointment for most of the audience.
Several fans had already expressed their disagreement with Ezra Miller playing the beloved character on-screen. Miller faced allegations of misconduct in March 2022. He was arrested in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment at a karaoke bar. The next day he faced arrest again due to allegations of having thrown a chair at a woman and injuring her forehead.
However, another Twitter user appreciated the movie and shared its trailer.
