Grant Gustin, who plays the lead role in The Flash TV show, has responded to speculations that he will make an appearance in the upcoming The Flash movie featuring Ezra Miller. While The TV show is about to wrap up, the cinematic version of the iconic speedy hero is set to hit theaters in a few weeks, and it will introduce a new chapter for the DC Universe.
During an interview with TVLine, the star of the Arrowverse was questioned about the ongoing rumors of his cameo in The Flash movie. These rumors have been circulating for the past couple of years, speculating that Gustin will make an appearance in the cinematic version of The Flash. Here’s what he said –
[QUOTE: No! [laughs] Yeah, there have been a lot of rumors out there for a long time. No one has come out directly and asked me, like ever on the record. People ask me on the street all the time, and yeah, I’m not keeping some big elaborate secret. ]
Although Gustin has denied the rumors, it is possible that he may be following in Andrew Garfield’s footsteps during the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home. As with most superhero movies, there is a high level of confidentiality surrounding The Flash movie, which means that even if Gustin were to appear in the film, he would not be able to confirm it.
In the event that Gustin is involved in The Flash movie, there are several avenues through which his character, Barry Allen, could make an appearance, given the film’s exploration of the multiverse, exemplified by Michael Keaton’s Batman.
Even if Gustin did not shoot any new scenes for The Flash movie, it is still possible to include archived footage of Gustin’s portrayal of The Flash. For instance, in a montage from The Flash season 2, which involved a journey to Earth-2, viewers were treated with glimpses of different Earths in the multiverse.
It paid tribute to past and present DC media, including Supergirl. While this may only be a subtle nod, it does suggest that it is not entirely unprecedented for Gustin and Miller to appear together as their respective versions of The Flash.
Miller made history during the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event by becoming the first actor from the DCEU to feature in the DC TV franchise. During this crossover, Gustin’s iteration of The Flash bestowed a name upon Miller’s version of the character.
If Gustin were to make a cameo in The Flash movie, it would be a delightful follow-up to that moment. Whether or not the film will reference their initial meeting during the Arrowverse crossover or make any allusions to Gustin’s Barry Allen is currently unknown.
