Due to the grinding nature of the microtransaction economy, Gran Turismo 7’s release has been hammered by the gaming community. Following last week’s server downtime and a controversial update that nerfed specific races to stop gamers from earning credits swiftly, things were coming apart at the seams for Polyphony Digital.
The backlash of the public was evident when Gran Turismo 7 obtained a record-low User Score on Metacritic, and the internet was teeming with enthusiasts asking devs to change the game for the better. Thankfully, the voice of all those left disgruntled by the in-game currency did not go unheard.
To mend fences with discontented players, Polyphony’s president, Kazunori Yamauchi, announced that Gran Turismo 7 would receive a significant update in April to recalculate the rewards system as a whole.
On top of this, all those gamers “who may have been affected” by GT7’s recent woes will also receive 1 million free in-game credits as a gesture of goodwill. Anyone who owned a copy of Gran Turismo 7 prior to March 25 and has logged into the game before April 25 is eligible to get this hefty payout.
While this generosity is not enough for players to buy high costing sweet rides in the game, it should, nonetheless, provide them with a good boost, and who knows, it might keep the displeased from protesting as well.
Given below are the improvements that the April update will bring to life:
- Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
- Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
- Increase of rewards in Online Races.
- Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
- Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
- Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.
In addition, Yamauchi also laid out the studio’s plan for some of the near-term updates to further polish GT7. While a release date for the same isn’t out yet, Polyphony did give an insight into the rectifications that this upcoming update will focus upon.
Following are the near-term improvements that Gran Turismo 7 is slated to receive:
- Increase the payout value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
- Further World Circuit event additions.
- Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
- Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
- Make it so cars can be sold.
