Forza Horizon 5 has been the talk of the racing community for a while, but that has excluded the Sony community from taking part in an epic racing experience. However, they need not fear for long as their own exclusive racing property is hurtling towards the finish line soon. New details have emerged regarding Gran Turismo 7, revealing what players can expect when it launches.
This information comes from a pamphlet handed out at Yodobashi Camera, a well-known retail chain in Japan. The text is in Japanese but has been translated by GTPlanet user PettyWingman. The booklet reveals several details about the upcoming game, slated for release in March 2022.
According to the information provided in the pamphlet, the game will feature “over 420 car models with the highest quality ever,” and will have “over 90 tracks with realistic weather and realistic scenery.”
Long-time fans of the series will also be happy to know that the pamphlet says: “the long-awaited GT Mode, in which you can enjoy the car life, is back again. Enjoy various events as buying, selling, and tuning the cars and racing.”
Players will also have a garage that can store up to 1000 vehicles, and the pamphlet also listed the areas that can be visited during the single-player mode:
Brand Central: A shopping mall where over 60 automobile brands assemble. You can purchase over 300 post-2011 cars here.
Used Cars Dealer: The cars which have been discontinued for a long time are lined up here. The Japanese historic cars from the ’80s and ’90s are also available. The line-up would be updated every day.
Garage: Your base of the car life. Up to 1000 cars can be stored and you can gaze at and set up your car.
Tuning Shop: Engine, tire, brake, suspension, etc. and a huge number of tuning parts are available. You can also purchase the supercharger, turbocharger, weight reduction, and rigidity increase.
GT Auto: Dress up your car here. Over 130 wheels and over 600 aero parts are lined up. Oil change, car wash, painting, and livery editing are also available.
Scapes: Over 2500 photo locations in 40 countries all over the world. Place your car in a beautiful scene and take realistic HDR photographs.
License Center: Learn the driving technique from scratch. You can learn from basic techniques to different driving for each car and course.
Mission Challenge: 0-400m Battle, Drifting, Max Speed Challenge, “Music Rally” which you can race to music, etc. You can experience unique events that are different from ordinary racing.
World Circuits: World circuits such as Le Mans and Nürburgring, beloved fictional circuits such as Trail Mountain… Over 90 layouts are in this game.
Going by the provided information, it seems that Gran Turismo 7 will be more of a traditional Gran Turismo experience, with a proper career mode and more car customization options compared to the online multiplayer-focus Gran Turismo Sport.
This should be good news for ardent fans of the franchise, but the question is if the traditional approach will give the direct competitor, Forza Horizon 5, a run (or race) for its money. The open-world design of Horizon offers players much more freedom in the world and also allows them to take in the beauty of the game. However, a more focused experience offered by GT 7 may mean there could be lesser launch bugs and better implementation of features.
We’ll have to wait till Match 2022 to see if Sony’s exclusive racer could leave Microsoft’s in the dust.
