The next instalment in the Warner’s Batman series, Gotham Knights, has been delayed. Announced in August 2020, it was slated for release in 2021, but Warner Bros. announced today that it has decided to push the title to 2022.
There was no reason given as to why the game has been delayed, but the COVID-19 pandemic might be a factor. A third of developers, responding to a July 2020 GDC survey, reported that their projects had been delayed by the pandemic, and that the situation had not improved by much.
While Gotham Knights is a Batman brawler, it isn’t exactly set in the Arkham universe. It looks like an Arkham game, with various heroes from the Bat team working to take down baddies, it’s being published by the same company (but being developed by a different studio from the Arkham Trilogy), and even seems to pick up almost exactly where Arkham Knight ended – SPOILERS – Batman supposedly died in an explosion at Wayne Manor.
Gotham Knights is designed as an open-world RPG style game, where players can take control of Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin or Red Hood. Each has their own moveset, strengths and gadgets. Players are also given freedom on how to approach every situation. Whether you decide to go the stealthy and sneaky route or all gadgets blazing is entirely up to you. The game also allows you to play solo or dive into co-op play with a friend. So, four players could play at once, having the entire Batfamily stealthily clearing a room within a matter of minutes.
WB Games: Montreal hasn’t yet revealed which villains we’ll be going up against in Gotham Knights, with the released gameplay footage showing our heroes going up against random thugs inside a hospital. However, we did see that the city of Goth looks super expansive and has been reported to be extremely dynamic and interactive.
But the series is being continued through Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While Gotham Knights operates on another continuity which fits perfectly for a game inspired by a comic book.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also expected by 2022, which seems to be sticking to the announced timeline.
About Gotham Knights

Set in the gritty and lawless city of Gotham, Gotham Knights is the newest addition to the Batman brawler style series where players can choose between one of the four Batfamily characters: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood.
Gotham Knights offers players the chance to explore the most dynamic and interactive version of Gotham City to date. Go solo or team up with your friend for co-op play and rid the streets of Gotham of any and all criminal activity.
