Author Gaiman Reveals Unique Details About Good Omens S2 On Tumblr

Neil Gaiman has recently released a tease from Good Omens season 2. The series is based on the 1990 novel written by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett of the same name and was adapted into a series by Prime Video in 2019.

Although it was supposed to be a limited series, high viewership, and critical acclaim coerced the showrunners to renew the show for a season 2 in 2021.

A release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but season 2 is expected to release this summer.

In a cryptic Valentine’s Day post, Gaiman shared an excerpt of Aziraphale’s diary from Good Omens season 2 on Tumblr.

Gaiman explained that the makers asked him to write a passage for Aziraphale’s diary, but the final shot ended up being too close for the audience to read most of the lines.

That is why Gaiman posted the writing on Tumblr, so it doesn’t go to waste. The legendary writer posted it as “a small Valentine’s Day gift for any of you who need cheering up.”

Read his full entry below:

“Madam!” I said, “I do believe that you have entirely misunderstood me!” The countess drew herself to her full height, which I believe would have been about five feet and seven inches, and stared at me, quite puzzled. “No,” she said, “I believe that it is you who are mistaken, Mr Fell. For never have I met a man of any kind who could resist my blandishments.” And then, replacing her garments (which took much longer than shedding them), she added, “I do not know what manner of a man you are, Mr Fell. I trust you will still help my brother with his little problem.” “I am still there for him,” I assured her. “He is as good as freed from his durance vile.” “You are an angel,” said the countess. And so we left the matter. This morning, her brother rejoined her, released (by me) from debtor’s gaol. She was by all accounts delighted to see him.

POSTSCRIPT: It appears that she was not a countess, he was not her brother, and they fled together for France leaving many debts behind them. I told Crowley all about the matter over a glass of claret, but he did not appear to be as surprised as I had expected.

Things We Know about Good Omens Season 2

Since Good Omens was initially conceived as a limited series, season 1 followed the novel’s plot very closely, and the ending wrapped up the book’s contents. So, it is very difficult to steer the ship from here and predict what will come in season 2.

Although Gaiman revealed that he and Pratchett had planned on writing a sequel in the past, it never came to fruition. They will likely incorporate many ideas from the failed endeavor in the sequel.

We have some interesting details from the filming of season 2, especially concerning the cast. Firstly, Benedict Cumberbatch (Lucifer) and Frances McDormand (God) will not return for season 2, but we will see Michael Sheen and David Tennant returning as Aziraphale and Crowley, respectively.

Other season 1 actors like Nina Sosyana, Miranda Richardson, Quelin Sepulveda, and Maggie Service will return in season 2 but will be playing entirely new characters.

Although season 2 is tightly under wraps, Gaiman has been sneakily letting out bits and pieces of the plot via social media, keeping the audience engaged. However, releasing the entire excerpt from Aziraphale’s diary is a really exciting tease, even by Gaiman’s standards.
